Whatcha think of 13th Floor Elevators? I love them for this album cover alone. So, in my ongoing search for quality psychedelic heavy sludgy goodness, I decided to take a chance on 13th Floor Elevators. I've known enough people in my past who liked 'em, and they certainly seem to fit the bill for what I'm looking for lately. I have the above pictured album, and I'm liking it. It's a little garage-ier than what I'm looking for, but it's still good stuff. At times I have to remind myself that I'm not listening to a Brian Jonestown Massacre album, but in my fractured world, that's a good thing. Anyone a fan? Any recommendations for other albums by them, or heavy-scrungey psychedelic rock in general?

I only know of them by reputation - never heard a single track by them - but I do have two Roky Erickson records. One is a compilation of mostly acoustic stuff from the seventies that's enjoyable enough but not to the extent that I feel compelled to listen to it often. The other was (I think) a new release from '04 or so that I picked up 2nd hand a year or so back that's still sitting in my 'unlistened' pile.
So basically I'm no help to you whatsoever.

WOW out of all that, i'm most curious about hp lovecraft and silver apples. some of the other stuff looks tasty too, though i haven't the faintest clue what some of it is. ultimate spinach? and ya KNOW i've heard "freak out". i think i became acquainted with that album before i learned how to read...which may explain a few things.

The Moby Grape and Spirit albums on theaudience's list are fantastic, two of my favourite albums. The Moby Grape album in particular is just classic. it's not what you'd call a freak-out album or anything though - just a great rock album filled with sparkling melodies and harmonies.

You're Gonna Miss Me is about the only song I like from them.
