Hot Chip

I heard a song on an indie radio station here in Sydney called "My Piano", and it immediately grabbed my attention. I haven't heard anything about this group, so I thought I would seek the advice of the org experts. What do you feel about this band? Is this song indicative of their sound? What would you recommend seeking out for a newbie?

Hey there Moonbeam,

They are really nice. I've seen them live twice. They performed "My Piano" @ the last gig I went to on 4/20. Here's some of my dodgy camera phone shots from the show lol

If you liked that tune, then, please do check out The Warning. It was one of my favorite albums of 2006. Great songs on there like "Over and Over" & "Arrest Yaself" (two tracks which I WEAR out), "No Fit State" (they do this one great live), "...Boy from School," "Careful" -- pretty much the whole album is top shelf.

Also, they are BIG Prince fans. They have a song called "Down With Prince" from their debut Coming on Strong and they cite him a lot in interviews -- like this one.

Plus, they just released a DJ-Kicks comp a few weeks ago (where "My Piano" comes from). I know you have the Annie DJ-Kicks set [were you feeling "Gimme Y--r Money" & La Bionda's "Wanna Be Y--r Lover" from that like I was? :0) ], if so this one is really eclectic just like that set, it's worth checking out, too.

don't know anything about them, but when the fake tracklist for the "Wanderlust" singles was put up, the Bjork fans were pissing themselves at the prospect of a Hot Chip remix. shrug

Yeah, I mentioned these guys a while back. What also attraacts me to them is that the singer sounds a lot like Paul McCartney.

Goldfrapp concerts are very catty and faggalicious in the worst way possible -- it wasn't even cool gay people it was like 'ghetto gay' folks that night -- (no offense to anybody on here), but when I was @ the G.frapp concert in NYC, it was like all the pissy types from the Madonna tour nosebleed seats, or whatever, go to G.frapp shows during their off-season -- like Allison's the 'fill-in diva' when Madonna's not on the road or some shit. That's what it felt like for me. Case in point, a group named Ratatat opened for them and cats were cursing at the stage, booing, flipping them off, etc. -- I thought it was mildly humorous at first, but then it got really ugly towards the end of the night.

I'm'a just call it like I saw it: G.frapp crowds are usually big BITCHFESTS, so if you aren't a diva-esque female with costume changes -- basically if you're not Goldfrapp -- you're gonna get your ass booed by their crowds. I will just let that be known.

Thus, Hot Chip being considered "shit" by a G.frapp concertgoer is pretty understandable given their audiences.

Leaving the venue, muthafuckas were pushing their way through the crowd. I swear, if I got touched off in any way, I was gonna start whylin'. But, that was just me being really tight by the end of their show.

And, on top of that, the G.frapp gig wasn't particularly all that special. But maybe it was just that night???
