So essentially, I would be your top songs from the last 50 years. My Thinking.

Is that what's preventing you from actually making a list? no, like sos, any such list for me would be very hard. i can't even tell you who my top 10 artists are on a given day. the top 4 are always the same (Prince, Madonna, Bowie, Beatles), but after that, it depends on who i'm into at the time. #5 might be James Brown or the Stones or U2 or Bjork or Meshell Ndegeocello or Paula Abdul or Janet Jackson or Elton John or Michael Jackson or George Michael or Elvis or Tina Turner or Johnny Cash or Cher or Rufus Wainwright or Mercury Rev or any number of people. and it would probably be completely different the next time i tried to list them.

The should go quicker, because this era is soo good. After I write a list, I let it go, though I amended that prior list nearly a hundred times.

great lists - particular love seeing the pere ubu, Fall, Rainbow, ian hunter and Wire, to single a few out. Have you ever heard Diamond Head? I think that would be right up your alley if you haven't.

Yep. I got Lighting to the Nations awhile ago, and Am I Evil was considered, much of my metal knowledege came from a book called The Collectors Guide to HeavyMetal written by Martin Popoff, a Canadian writer who is a pretty good. Wire and The Fall entries are directly due to your influnce. I almost had Cheap Trick with three consecutive no.1 spots, which gives me the idea that I Want You to Want Me, Surrender and Dream Police might be the three best singles from 3 consecutive albums. if that makes any sense? I especially like my 1977 top Ten, I had a hard time ranking those; all no.1 songs. [Edited 5/4/07 19:20pm]

[Edited 5/4/07 19:20pm] Makes perfect sense to me - I don't rank Dream Police quite that high, but I Want You... and Surrender are perfect pop, I think. The late '70s was a tremendously exciting time for popular music, I think, '77 in particular. I'm working on that year right now and I'm having quite a difficult time paring it down.
