Off the top of my head, in no particular order:
Regina Specktor
Kurt Kobain
Lumidee
lead singer for The Bravery
Cassie
Pharrell
Jack White from the White Stripes
lead singer for Keane
Blink 182
All American Rejects

I guess I use the same reason for Bjork whenever someone says she can't sing because people tell all of the time.....but I think it depends on the style of music they're doing. Certain voices couldn't pull off an R & B song or pull off an Aretha song, but their voices work for their type of music. I just scrolled up and saw where people said this about Dylan.

I just think the people I listed are weak as vocalists. I have a much longer list of voices that annoy me but an annoying voice doesn't necessarily equate to a lack of ability. For instance: Keyshia Cole. I can't really stand her tone. Even though she has pitch problems, technically she can sing. Same case for Mary J. I heard her live when she first started and she was KILLIN'! Mary's problem is having too many hip-hop producers working on her material. Take a song like "Not Gonna Cry"; that was a great track because Babyface produced it and he knew how to help her work her voice. Other voices that annoy the hell out of me: Nelly Furtado, Corrine Bailey Rae, Fergie (sometimes), Gwen's latest stuff, James Blunt, Linkin Park, Bjork, etc. This list could easily be LONG! That's not to take away from these singers' abilities (although the jury is still out for me on Corrine) but their TONE is what I have a distate for. Singers like Cassie just need to QUIT. Some people don't belong in the music industry. I don't believe you have to have a great voice to sing but you MUST have SOMETHING other than looks to make you worth checking out. David Lee Roth and Bobby Brown had good stage presence which outshined their voices. Sorry, I'm rambling.

Those people don't know what singing is, then. An argument could be made that she can't pronounce English words properly, but her vocal chops are pretty much undeniable, I'd say.

I guess I don't know shit then, cuz homegirl can't sing. She can scream and summon demons from the guttural depths of her stomach for days, but she can't sing. There's talent there for sure; I just don't think she's a good singer at all.

oh please. for a more conventional piece of evidence as to her singing ability, take her version of "like someone in love" from her debut album, which she sings flawlessly

Her vocals are more traditional on Gling-glo too. I guess doing jazz compared to her usual style would almost force you to tone it down a little. lol I think that album showcases her vocals at its best.

Harlepolis

Its ironic how Billie Holiday influenced a nation of artists(vocalists & musicians) who could outshine her vocally,,though NEVER emotionally.

Which goes back to my belief that "music stylists" last longer than fierce vocalists,,,becoz a stylist rely on his/her musical personality and depth whereas a fierce vocalist have the range to showcase(though sometimes they're bland, like Jennifer Hudson).

Billie Holiday
Grace Jones
Sade
Nina Simone

None of them are known for being vocalists,,,but they're known for being music stylists.

I have and like her first album, Post and Vespertine. I don't think she's a good singer. It's that easy. shrug

Sheryl Crow.....Have you ever taken time to really listen to her voice? She can carry a tune but that's it. She's a better song/writer than a singer, for sure.

I agree totally. I remember I brought her up in another thread long ago about this very thing. disbelief

lead singer for The Bravery

I saw The Bravery live last week and you are so right. I think on record Sam Endicott sounds as okay as any other singer from the new wave of rock bands, but live he was horrible.
