Any Love Out There for Herbie Hancock???

With all due respect to Bernie Worrell, Herbie Hancock is my favorite keyboard player of all time. Equally at home with synths, clavinet or piano, Herbie has been one of the more adventurous artists out there for the past four decades. In particular, the stuff he recorded with the Headhunters is mind-blowing. Anyone else there share my sentiments? In no particular order, here are five of my all-time favorite Herbie jams. What are yours?

Hang Up Your Hang Ups
Doin' It
Chameleon
Rockitt
Ready or Not

All-time favorite album of his for me is Manchild.

Peace,
Scott

Now this is a fact.

cool

HeartBeat, start with thrust and print this page to get the rest, it's mandatory jazz/funk listening. Really, every Herbie disc should be taught in schools, his straight jazz from '63 is in regular rotation with me as well.

"Quartet" is also a rather nice record.

Of course, I'd rank the "Maiden Voyage" album itself on a far higher level than "Kind Of Blue". But then again I'm crazy, don't listen to me.

I haven't really played the piano myself in about half a decade and my fingering has gotten embarrassingly clumsy, but I still seem to remember how to play stuff like "The Eye Of The Hurricane" somewhat (well, sections of it).

i saw him play with Guru about 5 years ago and i walked out. he was horrible. i know Herbie is Herbie and that he is one of the masters but sheesh...that was crap.

he seemed more interested in showing off his purpple shiny suit.
