The Top 20 Most Overplayed Songs (R&B) - Pt.1

It seems when I decide to turn on the car radio (and that’s very rare), I’m overwhelmed by “ol skool” songs. Don’t get me wrong. I love ol skool, but damn, can these stations dig a little deeper!!! These are songs I NEVER want to hear again. They were cool when they first came out, but I’ll bet any money these are getting more air/club play now, than when first released.

The Top 20 Most Overplayed Songs (R&B)

1. Always And Forever – Heatwave
2. Got To Be Real – Cheryl Lynn
3. Brick House – The Commodores
4. Best Of My Love- The Emotions
5. September – Earth Wind & Fire
6. Bill Withers – Lean On Me
7. What You Won’t Do For Love – Bobby Caldwell
8. Word Up – Cameo
9. You Dropped The Bomb On Me – The Gap Band
10. Atomic Dog – George Clinton
11. For The Love Of You – The Isley Bros.
12. (tie) Ladies Night or Celebration – Kool & The Gang
13. Sexual Healing – Marvin Gaye
14. Happy Feelings – Maze
15. Flashlight – Parliament
16. Forget Me Nots – Patrice Rushen
17. Superfreak – Rick James
18. I Wish – Stevie Wonder
19. Computer Love – Zapp
20. All Night Long – Lionel Richie

Any others? cool

i'd rather hear these songs a gazillion times rather hear 99.9% of what's on the radio today/ it's to the point i can only listen to the radio when tom joyner ormichael baisden are on

I know exactly what you mean!!! In my area,we have an Old School R&B station and they play the same songs over and over and over!! It's as if they pick a bunch of artists and choose their three biggest hits and play those same songs to death. Why can't the stations dig a little deeper?! Here's a list of the R&B classics that I am sick of hearing....

"Always and Forever" by Heatwave
"Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye
"Between The Sheets" by Isley Brothers
"Brick House" by the Commodores
"Very Special" by Debra Laws
"Best Of My Love" by the Emotions
"Too Tight" by Con Funk Shun
"Got To Be Real" by Cheryl Lynn
"You Are My Lady" by Freddie Jackson
"September" by Earth Wind and Fire
"Cutie Pie" by One Way
"Word Up" by Cameo
"Saturday Love" by Cherelle and Alexander O'Neal
"Take Your Time (Do It Right)" by SOS Band
"For The Love Of You" by Isley Brothers
"Get Down On It" by Kool and The Gang
"Shining Star" by The Manhattans
"Super Freak" by Rick James
"Reasons (live)" by Earth Wind and Fire

don't get me wrong,I love most of those songs, but damn.....do I have to hear them everytime I turn on the radio?! Why not dig deeper and play other songs by those artists? Instead of "Take Your Time",why can't we hear "High Hopes" every once in a while? Instead of "Brick House",how about playing "Too Hot Ta Trot" sometime? Instead of "Between The Sheets",can I hear "Take Me To The Next Phase" sometime?? I'm thrilled that we have Old School classic R&B stations but they seriously need to expand their tired playlists.

here's a list of some R&B songs I would like to hear on the radio sometimes, instead of the overplayed stuff. These are songs that I never hear on the radio anymore....

"Landlord" by Gladys Knight & The Pips (1980)
"Glide" by Pleasure (1979)
"It Seems To Hang On" by Ashford and Simpson (1978)
"Love X Love" by George Benson (1980)
"Let Me Put Love On Your Mind" by Con Funk Shun (1979)
"Too Late" by Junior (1982)
"I'm Freaky" by O'Bryan (1983)
"Seduction" by Val Young (1985)
"69 Times" by Rick James (1982)
"Let's Work" by Prince (1981)
"Let's Get Crackin" by Shock (1981)
"Imagination" by BB&Q Band (1982)
"Radio Activity" by Royalcash (1983)
"Wild Night" by One Way (1982)
"Love Over and Over Again" by Switch (1980)
"In The Mood" by Tyrone Davis (1979)
"Baby Don't Break Your Baby's Heart" by Kashif (1984)
"Try Again" by Champaign (1982)
"Love's Comin At Cha" by Melba Moore (1982)
"Sing A Happy Song" by the Ojays (1979)

If they would mix songs like these into the playlist along with the well-known hits,I wouldn't even complain. But I get sick of hearing the most "popular" hits all the time!!

when I was in Chicago a few years ago,I found a really good Classic R&B station....much better than the one we have here. They dig alot deeper. They played "Freaky Deaky" by Roy Ayers!! That's exactly the kind of rare, forgotten jam that I want to hear on these stations!

There's so much more to Classic R&B than just "Brick House" and "Always and Forever" rolleyes
