BLACK CAT

I love this song from Janet Jackson and even though this song came out in 1987, I still enjoy hearing it. Personally,I think this is the best song on "Rhythm Nation 1814". Do everybody else agree?

ooooo controversial!

I Like "State Of The World", "Escapade" and the heavily underrated "Lonely".
"Black Cat" was the track I would usually skip, although when I was 13, I wrote and recorded an instrumental called "Funk/Rock" which was heavily inspired by "Black Cat"!

No, Rhythm Nation 1814 came out in 1989. The "Black Cat" single came out in 1990. In 1987, Janet was still releasing singles from Control as well as "Diamonds" with Herb Alpert.

How about: after thinking about it, sounds like a great idea! wink I'm sure I'd like it better than her last few albums, they just didn't do anything for me.

Yep. Trust A Try is one of her hardest songs.:
Black Cat, Trust A Try. If, What About, Scream (since its both Mike and Janet). Its a good direction for her but she seems to keep it at one rock song per album. Well, she DID. Lately its been nothing but fluff.

i always thought "BC" was her attempt to do a "Beat It". Her brother proved that the rock/pop formula could work for an R&B/pop artist and be a hit. I like it though. Haven't listened to it in a while. its not why i'd put on RN. i have the single with all the remixes too. the vid. really helped the song too. her first live vid ever. i don't have damito jo and 20y/o so i guess she abandoned the predictable formula she'd developed after the success of Black Cat.

I was wondering did Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produce and written the song or was it somebody else?

I love the song. For me, definately one of her best.

Nuno played on one of the remixed single versions. Not one one the album. He added a solo, some fills & some rhythm guitar .

There are 4 people credited with the guitar work on the original album track. If I recall correctly. Jesse Johnson, Jellybean Johnson, John McClain & Dave Barry.

When Jam & Harris were interviewed for Keyboard magazine during the time the album was out. They tried to breakdown just who played what on Black Cat.
It didn't seem to me that they were absolutley sure. Jellybean would have been the best person to ask since he produced the track.

As far as Nuno's contribution to the remixed version...what he added was cool, I didn't think it was needed. Once his name became associated with the track
no one seemed to be concerned about the other cats who played on it.

One of my favorite versions has Vernon Reid on guitar! How bout' that!?
