Janet not sure about tour, might record new album instead

In a new interview from the rehearsals for Friday night's performance at Paradise Island in the Bahamas for the grand opening of the Cove Atlantis, Janet told Access Hollywood that she is not sure if she will go on tour this year.

When asked about the possibility, she responded, "I'm not quite sure. I've been thinking about it. I might also go in and make another record this summer."

She admitted that rehearsing for Friday's one-time show has made her want to go on tour. Still, Janet seemed reluctant to commit to the possibility of touring.

Video of the full interview with Janet can be streamed on Access Hollywood's website.

UPDATE: Access Hollywood has another video on their website of the actual clip that aired on television, which shows Janet and her dancers rehearsing "Rhythm Nation." The footage shows a long catwalk in the center of the stage.

I fshe's going to do a mini-concert in the Bahamas and not perform a single track from her last 2 albums, I doubt there's a tour in the works.

After "20 YO", DO NOT RUSH INTO ANOTHER RECORD! DJ had some great moments...."20 YO" had some too, but fewer. I would do a tour for better or worse, just for the hell of it. Recharge your creative batteries that way. She what is out there beyond what JD lets you see!

She'll probably just release all the stuff that JD pushed aside that was good. lol

I'm sure Kwame and Jam and Lewis would be pleased.

honestly, she needs to scrap the plans for a tour and an album. she just needs to go away for 3 or 4 years and work on a lot of tracks in the meantime. hopefully by then, she'll have amassed enough decent ones to pick the good ones to go on a 50 minute album. or, hell, at the rate she's going, maybe just an EP. still, she needs to stop and regroup. let the stink cloud that's over her blow off and come back strong after being gone for awhile.

it'd be best neutral

I still haven't heard 20 Y.O.
all the way through yet
I had really high expectations
for this album because of what I was hearing
(about it returning to the sound JD loved from the 80's
that whole Flyte Time/SOS Band type of stuff)
I could get past the first handful of tracks
yes, it was that bad for me sad

but she also had my expectations high
for Damita Jo (which really isn't a bad album)
with all the talk about the revisit to this:

and once I heard it, it was like "bleh"
I guess because Dirty Mind is such a great album

I really don't think Janet has it in her anymore
her last few albums have been BO-RING
but I'm not that BIG of a Janet fan anyway, so...

What if her next album isn't a hit either? She might as well go out on tour and strike success where it's guaranteed and establish herself as an accomplished stage performer. The longer she holds it off, the more people's interest wanes.

Well if the record label Virgin was the problem, according the JD, that will be proven when she records the next CD on Island Records. So let's just wait and see.

rolleyes Virgin didn't write, produce or sing the songs, which is the album's problem, so I don't know where he gets off blaming them for her problems.

easy for us to tell her to tour. its her ego (already wounded) and reputation on the line. not to mention the lost monies from poor sales and half empty arenas. IF she tours, she needs to take a page from prince and do some "hit and run" type joints in smaller venues in select cities and work out a new set list (more nuanced songs) and routines.

She's a "video" artist, so pulling off those type of shows are harder for her.

Do House of BLues or similar places, work up a 7-8 song miniset

i agree with HOB type venues. surprise ppl for a change. let them have an "experience", create a demand for tix. being a video artist might make it "harder" for her to pull off, but she could do it. she doesn't seem to back down from hard work per se, she just has the wrong ppl around her; or no one around her feeding her original ideas. i don't like madonna but she's worked hard to "grow", learned guitar, improved her voice. janet needs to do something to indicate that she's willing to grow as an artist too.

Don't question why we like her music... I don't think any of her fan thinks that she is a power house vocalis, but we like her light feathery vocals.. like who you like.. Don't worry about why we like her... just listen to whom it is you like

Why does she deliberatly fail to recognize her newer albums. Seeing the mini setlist for her latest mini-show it seems she doesn't want to give any recognition to her newer work. She could have easily thrown in All Nite and So Excited.. So what if they weren't huge #1 hits? She needs to support her newer material and not discard it just because it wasn't much of a hit.

I'm really liking Damita Jo now. It's such a great summertime album.

She didn't choose her own setlist for the Atlantis performance. They told her what they wanted to hear. It's the same for any exclusive performance that an individual or corporation pays for.

But on the whole I agree with you. I think it's probably wise for her at this stage in her career to do a greatest hits tour of some sort, though.

I don't think she will be organizing a hits collection with Virgin. That working relationship has ended.

well, it would be good to promote it with the tour and vice versa. and besides i'm sure the fans would enjoy it. perhaps she could give it away with the ticket prices like a certain artist did. lol

so her contract with Virgin is done huh? they could still capitalize on her hits and release one anyway; right? confuse

never thought about that, well that's somewhat good news, i'd like to think she'd mix things up a bit if she had autonomy. interesting choice for the Atlantis, she's not exactly scorching right now. owner must be a fan or something
