what are you on about? The UK's entry this year was the perfect eurovision song!
It was camp, catchy, easy to sing-a-long to, and it shamelessly named other
countries in it! What more could you ask for from this cheese-fest?!

I totally agree with you, it was 'pure Eurovision Contest'... but it doesn't mean it wasn't total crap as well!
The funny thing is that these people have been choosen by public vote to be part of the contest. I guess it's just the English way to take the piss out of the whole thing.

Ukraine's performance may just be the worst thing I've ever seen in my life. Or the best. I just can't decide.

I'm sure it's going to be a massive hit!!

BTW I don't think anyone could beat the UK song in trashiness. It's the crappiest thing I've ever heard. The whole performance was just embarrasing.

I loved the the winning song. Although it was the only song I heard this year.

I have to comment on the politics issues. First of all, even though I haven't heard any of this year's songs, somehow I doubt that this year's UK's entry was any better then the crappy songs from previous Eurovision contests. As for previous German songs, all I can recall right now is a guy named Guildo something. That was pure crap as well. I can't remember any other memorable songs right now, but still. My point is, if the song is crappy, that has nothing to do with politics.

Secondly, Eastern influence is just something people like in music right now. I few years ago it was the Latin/Spanish influence and before that it had to be pure pop, preferably with English lyrics. Ten years ago, the only countries that dared to use ethnic elements in their entries were Cyprus and Turkey. Needles to say, they never got anywhere.

And finally, I'm from Slovenia. Technically Slovenia is a Central European country, but many of you probably think of it as an Eastern-European country. Well whatever it is, we never even get to the finals. biggrin We managed to get to the finals this year and it was celebration time, even though our final rank was crap.

Taking sentences out of context, real nice. And eye-rolling to go with it. What I said was UK has usually had crappy songs, the only German song I can remember is the one performed by that Guildo guy (=crappy) and as for the rest, I can't remember any.

And it's kind of funny, if you think about it. The UK produces a massive amount oh hits every year. If they ever sent music that was anything like that hits to Eurovision, I'm sure we wouldn't be having this debate right now.

It's not about just "voting for neighbours" because of kindness. There are several million Turkish immigrants living in Germany and apparently the highlight of their lives is "giving Turkey 12 points" each goddamn year. The same thing with Estonia giving 12 points to Russia - I hardly doubt the Estonians themselves would be too keen to vote their old conquerors, but there's still a huge amount of Russians living in the country and the best way to show your loyalty is obviously to vote your old homecountry in the Eurovision song contest.

So did anyone watch eurovision last night?
Hillarious as usual, i love it so! lol

How on earth the winners (serbia?) won is beyond me they were shit lol. Well i spose everyone was lol. The only one who i actually thought had any talent was the German entry.Roger Cicero.Has anyone heard of him? Downloaded his album this morning and its actually very good, so i'm quite pleased that this years contest has provided me with someone worth listening to!

I'm from Germany. And I do have Cicero's album, too! He's pretty big in Germany.
I can't stand the political results from eastern europe. It's like 18 countries from eastern europa and 6 countries from western europe - and in the end the eastern countries are all on the first 18 places. It has nothing to do with good music - it's just politics.

I think, the german entry was the best. And I don't say that, because I'm german. There were years where we had pretty bad songs. I'd love to see the winners to be announced by a jury again like in the old days. Since everyone can vote via phone, all the eastern countries give their points to their neighbours - even if the songs are all shit! I can't stand it anymore.

I agree, Cicero was the best by far (and I don't say that, because I'm Austrian smile ) the only song from the show I find worth purchasing. I bought his album several months ago. excellent! a strong contender for my personal album of the year (but then there's Amy Winehouse of course...)

as for the rest, the show was bull of course, so no surprise... and DJ Bobo tanked in the semifinals giggle woot!

Pandurito, point taken biggrin

Which leads me to another thing. Do you know how many Croats, Serbs, Bosnians and other former Yugoslavians live in Slovenia? A LOT. And not only in Slovenia. I think migration is a big factor here.

Stefan Raab (german TV entertainer) wrote and composed 3 german entries in the last 10 years.

1998 "Guildo hat euch lieb" Guildo Horn (7th place)

2000 "Wadde Hadde Dudde Da?" Stefan Raab (5th place)

2004 "Can't Wait Until Tonight" Max Mutzke (8th place)

I think, Raab is a very good composer. With his songs we always entered the Top 10. "Can't Wait Until Tonight" is one of the best songs coming out of Germany in the last 10 years, I think.

And in 2004 he also did a great duet with Shaggy:

And you could imagine that Raab is a very big fan of James Brown. Here are his scenes with James from the last coulpe of years:
