Hip-Hop's "Dead", Rock's Dying (Again!), & Funk's Still Missing. It's Time For Another Electronic Dance Invasion! Anyone remember the last invasion for America in 1997-2001?
The Prology, The Chemical Brothers, BT, The Crystal Method, Goldie, Roni Size/Reprezent, Daft Funk, The Orb, Ladytron, Miss Kitten & The Hacker, Uberzone, Bad Boy Bill, Armand Van Halden, DJ Irene, DJ Icey, Baby Anne, etc. etc. etc. Hell, even Kraftwerk & The Egyptian Lover made a little bit of a comeback because of the invasion (mostly in dance clubs of California, Florida, & Europe in general). But by 2001 (?), all of that hard work to have a big rave got push back underground (blame it on gangsta rap, the war on MDMA, or even Oprah if you must). Anyway, it's 2007. And the music industry (especially in America) is going straight to hell in the freaking toliet. So in order to spice things up, we need another electronic music invasion. This time, let make it a electronic music revolution. Let reactivate rave culture so we can have a real party to go to on a Friday & Saturday night again while we at it. Also, lets start support a revival of chicago-style house, the original detriot techno/electro (the funky kind please!), los angeles electro (Egyptian Lover, you're needed!), miami bass (DJ Mike, where are you), orlando breakbeats, & even Europe's italo disco. All suggestions & second opinions are very welcome. EDIT: I still have a dislike for trance. But at this point in my single life, anything is better than american hip-hop at this point!!! Also ROCK is dead! Just the fact that the word ROCK is used on Fall Out Boy,Hinder,Nickelback and Daughtry, when the hell did rock get so god damn sad and boring! i thought grunge was depressing, but this stuff is painful! As long as there are clubs, good dance music will always thrive, even if it's underground.

I was trying to be nice with saying "rock is dying". But damn, you told the ugly truth!

Welcome back VC! As I was saying, rave culture needs to get their stuff together and set up some more parties. Arkansas & Louisiana can use some serious uplifting right about now.

Is there a chance Arkansas and Louisiana will never be hip? I'm not into raves, myself. Good clubbing, yes. But I don't like the promiscuous drugging that goes on at so many raves. But I don't pay much attention to the 20% of the ravers that are there for their personal light show , I'm there for the music of the DJs & the electronic bands.

I've been to clubs that play both pop and techno on different nights. Retro nights that spin a lot of 70's and 80's material snares the urban professionals in their 20's and 30's. But once they switch to techno, gross sweaty men and shirtless twinks start coming out of the woodwork and soon everyone is high on E. Attracts totally different crowds.

Techno had its chance in the late 90's when that whole Electronica movement was hip for 5 minutes. I remember all the guitar magazines having articles like "Is The Guitar Dead?" and shit like that when Sneaker Pimps and Prodigy were getting popular over here.

I would like to see Jazz become popular again! "Man, the living creature, the creating individual, is always more important than any established style or system" - Bruce Lee

I wit ya on the Miami Bass dude . Now as far as "Funk's Still Missing", that has me disappointed. My favorite style of music needs to get back out there the way it was in its glory days. Sheeeit, makes me think about wanting to go start up a funk band or somethin . "Say I'm lookin' at you, from the corner of my eye..."

i would like the music we had in the 90s 80s 70s 60s and 50s get popular again well its popular but i mean make music like that again what pop song for instance is that good as dont speak by no doubt or R&b today wich of it is as good as lets say early destiny's child stuff Kci and jojo's song all my life , or toni braxton brandy and let not start about 70s soul/R&B and pop&rock music is dead but can it get back to life if we realy love it? ( nas said somewhere if you love music(hip hop) enough it wil get back i doubt it but all things are done i think . so go back to melodie and guitar riffs and great vocalist instead of uh uh yeah dark child , timbo konvict whisper SH.. and some minimalistic clap sounds or beat. i rarely enjoy todays music and im so in love from a lot of stuff from the 90s tm 50s , im liking jazz too btw im not a massive fan but im exploring jazz today . bring back melodie
