THE FUCKIN' 80's!!!!!

You had the best of all worlds:

New Wave (Flocking Seagulls, Gary Newman)
Pop Rock (The Police, U2)
Hard Rock (Metallica)
The best R&B period ever (The Teddy Riley invasion)
Jazz (Kenny G)
Pop (Madonna, Prince, MJ, George Michael, etc.)

And the list goes on....

highfive Agreed! 80's music was the best by far.

After 80's music, my list would be:

1960s
1950s
1970s

For Jazz - '50s through '60s

For everything else the '70s. It just seemed that almost every other genre of music was at the top of its game in the 1970s - Funk, Soul/R&B, Reggae, Rock, Salsa, Pop, Disco, World Music (Fela alone). There is just TOO MUCH good, classic music from that decade.

However, I will always be partial to the '80s, because that's when Prince, my music idol, ascended to the top. Although, even his first album was released in the '70s. The '80s was probably the last decade where actual musicians with talent were regularly signed to record deals. It's been downhill since the end of the 1980s. Talented artists and great songs have been sporadic in the 1990s and this decade. We're almost 10 years in and has anythinganyone truly memorable come out since the 2000's began?

I do think the times have a huge impact on the musical output as well. The decades that spawned the best music were organic and filled with change and hope, people were inspired. Now society seems to be suffocating on hopelessness and despair. We're living in a polluted, synthetic world and the music matches it, unfortunately.

The best albums of this decade like for example, 'Vespertine' and 'Kid A' were made by 90s artists I think. As for artists that made their debut this century, I think it's a little too soon to tell. Who knows? Ten years from now we might all be saying that 'Back To Black' was an album to remember.

Me!!!! That would be fun! I've often thought that if I were to ever get married (lol - fat chance!) that the theme for my wedding reception would be an 80's theme. I really love the music from that decade.

I think 1970's.. "since that was the ? asked", but to be honest 1960's as a whole was the decade of music in all genre's..

If The 70's are second to the 60's, it's not a distant second; Like the 80's 90's or the present.

I spin more music from the 70's and 60's than any other decade, as a matter of fact.

Definitely the 70's. The 80's had alot of sweet sounding songs but the 70's had the real music.
