I'm a little sad about this. I imagine they might be a little sick of each other after all the exposure they've received in the past few years and all of the bands imitating them and Joy Division. It's become really cool to namedrop them again, and they've always seemed like reluctant rock stars. With the new film in the can and a bunch of releases coming out, maybe they feel like their work is done. I'm just glad that I got to see them a few years back with Moonbeam and Anx. I can't speak for anyone else, but I had tons of fun at that show.

i had fun with you guys at that show but i wouldn't say it's one of the best concerts i've ever seen, or really anything close to it. it wasn't dynamic at all, and they did seem to be phoning it in. i dug on the "OMFG I AM AT A NEW ORDER SHOW!!!" vibe and we got to see mo collins from mad tv in the lobby (or was that when i saw the pixies at the same venue?), but yeah...they looked ready to pack it in.

Both good albums, but Republic really completed the circle. It was like a summation of their entire career - the melancholy of Joy Division and their first album, the cutting edge dance element, the rock-pop of Low Life. They really should have left it there. There were some good moments on their last two albums, but no great ones. And that gig I saw really was dreadful. I couldn't wait to go home.

Aside from the singles on Republic, it's not really that great. I like both of their recent albums better. shrug

honestly ever since it was released i've never ever been able to
remember the names of the tracks on republic

it's the only album by any artist that i have this problem with.

lately i've been listening a lot to this album and my fav song,
well non single song would be the one with the line

it was always special
it was like water down the drain
i'm intoxicated
everytime i hear your name

listened to that about 30 times last week and yet i can't begin
to think what it's called

biggrin

probably "special" or something

A lot of folks think they reached their peak with that one.

I love it. But I love the 3 before it a lot more.

i know. they're absolutely brilliant. and i know that they've got
material on them that's far better. it's just that sentiment of
my memories connected with Technique that make it my fav album of
theirs.

Brotherhood is in my top couple of favorite albums ever, by anybody. It just feels so raw and rocky and dreamy and funny and depressed and mean all at the same time. I never get tired of listening to it. Everything else kind of paled in comparison next to it for me, even when it was damn good!

sad This is really upsetting to me. I've read all of the posts here about feeling it was time, etc., but they are one of my absolute favorites and I don't like thinking of them as part of the past.

I am thrilled to have seen them live- it was an exhilarating concert for my bro and I. I was excited by the news that there would be another album soon after the underrated Waiting for the Sirens' Call and that they were writing material for the Joy Division film. And now this. sad

Technique is my favorite New Order album - I would love a nice reiusse of it. I really don't think they put out a bad album, although I have to admit I didn't listen to the last 2 anywhere near as much as the earlier stuff.

I like all their 80's material, basically. Technique and Brotherhood were very strong albums. Nothing beats their 12''-ers from the period, though. Perfect Kiss, Bizarre Love Triangle and Blue Monday are three of the best 12'' records EVER.

yes, their 12" mixes were always stellar. I love "Sub-Culture", probably my favorite remix.

Also love "Murder"

I hope this doesnt sound totally messed up, but Im glad they decided to call it quits when they did. Like a lot of you guys are saying, it seemed like they were just going through the motions with"Waiting for the Seirens call". The songs sounded like weaker versions of tunes they previously recorded, and Berny's 2 string guitar lines were kinda uninspired. "Get Ready" was hot, though. Most fond New Order memory is driving to D.C to see them, Gene Loves Jezebel, and a few other bands at an outdoor venue. New Order came on after dark, and you never really saw them. Only their silouettes. But the music was so damn good! Fave albums:

Low Life
Brotherhood
Factus(ep)
Technique
A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

Come off it! Everyone Everwhere and Chemical wipe the floor with anything on those last two albums. Republic's a heartbroken album. Everything was falling apart around them when they made it - Factory Records, the Hacienda, the Manchester scene, Tony Wilson. It was their break-up album, and it would have been perfect if they'd left it there. You were dancing with tears in your eyes.

Granted, both their "comeback" had their moments, but they couldn't hold a candle to their predecessors in any conceivable way. They were following where once they'd blazed a trail. And following very very slowly. And then there were Barney's lyrics. This from Krafty: "I think the world is a wonderful place/With mountains, lakes and the human race". Barney was never The Bard of Salford, the lyrics plumbed depths of inanity matched only by the downward moving sludge that was the music. And Krafty was the lead-off single from "Sirens".

You should have seen them at Wembley last year, going through the motions, stiff as concrete puppets on steel cables, all their failings exposed. New Order gigs used to be celebrations. That fely like a wake. We left early too, right after Love Vigilantes. They played True Faith as their last encore. I wasn't sad to miss it.
