Not that i care, but don't hear a lot about DMB here

perhaps i've missed previous threads, but the way they pack stadiums each summer and seem to be universally loved, i'd think i'd see more threads about Dave Matthews Band on here. (Radiohead and Coldplay too now that i think of it). i don't follow any of them, but they all seem to be larger than life

Hmm. DMB is good. But if you could write anything else about them,

Fucking awful excuse for a band- that may be why.

I actually had the misfortune of seeing them live recently, and I've never been part of a more inebriated, white, rhythmless crowd of pseudo-intellectual dorks in my entire life. And wouldn't you know that fucker went on for nearly 3 hours of increasingly torturous ear-rape! pissed

Prince and jam bands don't mix. It's the same reason why you don't see many Grateful Dead or Phish threads on the org.

hmmm Don't know about that.

Gov't Mule...

Followed by Soulive...

Followed by Prince would be a pretty good show.

But then I grew up on the musically diverse Bill Graham Fillmore East style shows.

You, my friend are in a league above most orgers who can't get into the jam band thing, myself included.

I'll wait to see if this thread grows large enough to get one of those hot/fire symbols, but I'm betting against it.

falloff falloff I had a roommate who was into them. She wasn't like the ones you speak of though. lol I used to see those DMB stickers on the back of cars on campus a lot too. I don't hate DMB or jam bands, but I haven't dug deep into any of them.

I'm not totally into the Jam Band scene myself, but like all genres there's good and bad.
I'd throw Aquarium Rescue Unit (if they ever reformed) into that fictitious show also.

And based on some of the DMB-hate expressed around here in the past, you'll win the bet hands down. smile

DMB is inoffensive, affable dad-rock. i used to hate them, but really..why? i just think they tend to have an obnoxious fan profile: middle-aged, proud SUV owners, frat/sorority types, like to fancy themselves "hippies" so they can wear baja pullovers and hemp fanny packs, etc., etc.

it's good music for barbecues, i guess shrug

I used to hate them because everyone I knew right after high school and in college adored them. And at the same time, laughed Prince off. I don't mind him now. Then again, I'm not often confronted with him anymore.

The music is alright, though. Nothing spectacular. It's one of those things that works on paper for me, but seeing the execution leaves me cold.

that would seem to be a contradiction in that Prince's bands JAM, so what exactly is a "jam band"? just a lot of loose improvisation without a cohesive set list or what?

the whole 'jam band' concept has taken a different turn over the last couple of years....

tA's description of the Filmore East-type shows fit the concept early on, even during 2004/2005....lately, not so much.

I am not into DMB, but I am familiar with their music....I would not consider them 'jam band circuit' material.....

Well, I must say, that is jam band-ish behavior...

I like DMB but it's not my fault! My roommate in college was an art major; ie stoned off his ass all the time and he played "Under the Table and Dreaming" on a continuous loop on his CD player. It got so I could tell what time of day it was by what song was playing. When I left the dorm, I found myself missing it and damn if I didn't go out and buy the CD.

Dave has some good stuff but his last few albums with the band have been weak. His solo album is terrible.
