Bryan Ferry!

who else likes this singer. i'm a big fan of his roxy music thing. but i want to know if his solo's are good..im kinda put off by the record covers they look a tad cheesey. i mean i really like that song "slave to love" but it does sound cheesey a bit. so what album do you recommend.

i have the same obstacle with David Byrne and Talking Heads, unfortunately. these are 2 groups i think i could really love, but the singing.... yeesh shake although in rock bands, singing is one of the easier things to get over, so i probably could grow to love them if i saturated myself with them and made myself like them.

Spoken like a true Oasis fan! Show you subtlety, intelligence and originality and you reach for the nearest blunt instrument and beats its brains out to the sound of Cigarettes & Alcohol (a T Rex rip-off).
lol

Do expand on your comment though, Mike. Don't be shy.

Tiny Tim meets Count Dracula.

I had trouble the first couple times I heard him too, but now I love his voice in all it's overly dramatic vibrato.

I actually see a lot of connections between those 2 bands. Maybe cuz they seem like the pre and post versions of Bowie's Berlin sound, thanks to Brian Eno. But I'm in love with Byrne's nervous outbursts. Always have been. I think it works.

As strange as his voice may sound (like a nervous old karaoke singer lol), he's still an awesome and outstanding singer. Plus, his vocals are pretty influential. Look at many of the New Wave and Post-Punk bands that emerged after Roxy Music. Many of them, from Jim Kerr to David Sylvian to David Byrne to Martin Fry have taken their cues from their hero.

You should purchase Girls and Boys from 85 (if you like Avalon, you're gonna like this one too) and In your mind (76) which sounds like a funkier and harder version of Siren wink

Ferry rocks! You should get EVERY Roxy Music album(although Manifesto is lousy). On another note i bumped into the man the other week. I was walking by the local concert hall where he played that night and he came out. He was very polite and signed autographs for everyone and was very witty. As for his best solo albums. Boys and Girls and Bete Noire are his finest.

Bryan Ferry is awesome. I've been listening to "Kiss & Tell" lately. I really dig his version of "Crazy Love."

I think he said that the Nazi iconography is very striking, and went on to clarify that he in no way supported anything the Nazi's stood for.

I loveeeee this man. He's one of my all-time favorite heart throbs. I love Roxy, but some of his solo stuff is good. Check out:

"Boys and Girls"

"Bete Noir"

"Taxi"

You can actually listen to the songs here:

I LIKED Bryan Ferry's smooth tones, but having heard him perform material from his latest covers album, 'Dylanesque', on TV, it sounds like he is having serious vocal problems, as has been commented in some parts of the media. Whether it's age or what, I don't know, but to my ears, he don't sound like Bryan Ferry no more ... confused

Here's hoping he gets over it.

biggrin Who knows, maybe Bryan and Bob have swapped voices for a while, meaning that Bob's gonna drop his own Bryan Ferry covers album - 'Ferryesque' lol
