I've never seen this album in the stores, so I decided to download the thing instead. For my surprise it took quite a long time to get it even that way and I noticed the mp3s were from a vinyl rip(!). I have no idea either what the album cover art is like, image search produces mostly null results. Couldn't even locate any proper reviews for the album, so I have no proper idea how the public might have received it. Is it really such a forgotten piece of work? (especially as the Dave Chappelle catchphrase originates from the video to the title song, it's a bit odd)

However, when you listen to the album itself you can only wonder whether all the participants were suffering from ear fatigue in the studio as the production is so incredibly muddled and drowned in stupid amounts of reverb that you can hardly even hear any of the details in the music. I don't mind 80s pop pap, but this just isn't working on so many levels. I still like the title song though, I think that even in all it's cheesiness it's wonderful candid, anthemic 80's pop. The opener "Can't Stop" is also decent but that's about it. Might grow on me, I don't know. Maybe there are some orgers who have developed a liking to his past-prime output as well?

mary j. blige song, also liked sha la la la(please come home), and rock and
roll control. I actually liked this album but the first single don't stop
was very cheesy. Glow is a pretty nice jam too.

Glow was a pretty funky track and proved that Rick wasn't quite done yet.

'Glow' is a decent album....not great,but not a complete disaster either.It spotlights the "new" Rick James sound that he created in the mid-80s.Alot of synths,hardly any horns and a colder,electronic sound.Very pop-ish.I like the opening track "Can't Stop",a cool,rock-flavored pop track that was featured in the movie 'Beverly Hills Cop'.I also like the title track,"Moonchild" and "Somebody (The Girl's Got").

In small doses it's a great thing.

It was a pretty shitty album mainly because he was "clean" at the time, which proves that Rick needs to be high as a kite for his true genius to come out.

Exactly! I remember Rick doing interviews back during that time saying he was clean. When I heard the album, I said....."Give Rick James back his dope!". A few months later when Prince released "Around The World In A Day", I said....."Prince, give Rick James back his dope! It doesn't have the same good affect on you that it does on him!"
