when you buy a new cd...

...do you disassemble the cd tray and pick off the security strip?

some people think this is very obsessive of me.

but i find that most of the time it hides some part of the nice tray art, or just plain looks ugly.

sometimes some of the glue is stubborn and that looks nasty too. ill

the security strip used to be something manufacturers would include on the outside cellophane,
but i guess that would leave the cd vulnerable to stealing when stores re-shrink-wrap their stock.

anyway, just wondering if anyone else bothers to pick off that security tag lol

thanks Anon, now I feel I can elaborate.

I think it is the WORST when it is a 2CD that is the size of a normal jewel case with a swinging tray... and the RAISED SECURITY TAG IS ON ONE SIDE OF THE TRAY AGAINST THE PLAYING FACE OF THE (SECOND) DISC.

Oh. That's the first thing to go. That's not obsessive. That's the right thing to do!

Sure, I always do!

A few years ago I was stealin' cds. I'd walk around taking off the tab with 1 hand. I'd get near the door and walk out with nerves of steel.

I got caught once though and it became expensive. lol

Those strips annoy me. And it really annoys me when they are stuck to the rear insert instead of the inside of the jewel case. Then when I try to take it off, it rips the insert. pissed

I have to say... I would rather see an ugly security tag directly on the inner tray card than upside against the playing face of the second CD in a 2cd jewel case.

It happened to me twice. One was the Distillers' 'Coral Fang' CD and the strip ripped off part of the artwork on the inside back insert. I had to redraw it myself with a black pen. mad

The other time it ripped off part of the insert, it was just black so I filled in the missing piece with a marker. Grrr.

yeah, i'm pretty OCD about making sure every last bit of security tag is picked off the jewel case...which is kind of silly most of the time, since i end up dismantling most of my CDs and storing them in binders anyway. shrug

I know that, but there's no buzz with the nerdy on-line shit.

It's so good to hear that there's still people like you around to lead the way on our moral issues lol

I actually throw out the whole packaging after a brief reading. I only keep high rez release like sacd and dvd-audio cases as they can't be loaded into a cd mega changer.

For years I lugged around cd towers, but I realized that for me it was all about the music. I do miss a lot of the Prince stuff like the jewel box info and black photos.

i keep my prince and bowie CDs in tact and on a CD spinner rack, but aside from some box sets and a select few others, i do the same thing - i keep the disc and the booklet and the rest goes in the trash. sometimes i save the jewel cases for using when i make comp CD mixes for people. shrug
