This was one of the most enjoyable episodes I've seen! I had been waiting for them to get into the late 70s "disco era" and they finally listened to me,lol.

I love Brick!!!! "Dusic" is my jam headbang and when they did "Happy",I went nuts.Love that song!!! After watching this episode,I pulled out my Brick Greatest Hits CD,lol.I'll be listening to it all week,ha ha.

Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniels were seen ALOT in this episode....doing their thing on the dancefloor lol

Who remembers The Pockets? "Come Go With Me"? If I recall correctly, their album was produced by Verdine White of Earth Wind and Fire.I have it on CD somewhere.

Gonna go listen to Brick's "Happy" on headphones music

I here you about Brick SoulAlive, they are one of my favorite groups. A'nt Gonna Hurt Nobody is my favorite cut by them. So far the late 70's episodes have been great, I hope they keep showing those ones.

As Tony the Tiger would say.....That episode was grrrrreat!!!!!

Brick was great and that's what I want to see more episodes of....funk groups. The songs for the dancers were great and that particular era of the 1970s was getting better, although I still want them to get a little later into the 1970s such as 1978 and 1979.

I noticed the Asain girl was on there also and she was looking young as hell. This must have been the very first year she was on there. It's getting closer to the era when I first started watching the show. I first started watching in late 1978/early 1979 and she was already on there by then. The dancers went wild during the line when the guy pulled her pants off. She came on the show with a bang! lol

Hell yeah! When I heard that song I hollered with delight because I haven't heard that song since probably around the early 1980s when radio stations still played vinyl. I love to hear an old jam I had completely forgotten about. Just when I think I have every single jam ever made, "Soul Train" pops out another one for me to look for.

Well, you better get your recorder ready because, if I'm not mistaken, next week they will continue on into that era with Starguard performing "Which Way Is Up". That episode is sure to be an ass-shaker.

I know what you mean! It's a trip hearing an old, forgotten jam that you forgot about.I remember on the Patrice Rushen/Sugarhill Gang episode,I went crazy when they played Skyy's "SuperLove" during the line dance.I instantly remembered the music, but I had no idea who sang it.It was like meeting up with an old friend that you knew many years ago, lol.

I just read on IMDB that the May 12th Classic Soul Train is from the 1978-1979 season and it star's Atlantic Starr and Freda Payne

thumbs up! This would be the early days of Atlantic Starr...before they had all those big hits in the 80s.

Exactly. It's just a damn shame that, in order to get that good feeling again, we have to hear an old song that we haven't heard in years. We used to be able to get that feeling hearing a new jam. Too bad today's slow ass "Lawrence Welk Generation" had to eliminate fast jams and go and ruin things. lol

lots of love vainandy! I will because that was such an underrated group.

and yeah I concur with ya on the show finally getting to that era of music we know. I got to see brick about five years ago. the horn player is off the chain. he played long notes while breathing. his neck was going in and out while he was going up and down the horn. and I also saw dance partner the chinese girl had during the mid eighties on one of the seventies episodes partner when he had a big afro. almost didn't recognize him. tripped me out.

CoolMF

Someone earlier commented on the Asian dancer looking extremely young on this episode. I noticed that too as well as the fact that, even back then, she still couldn't dance.

This may be the 1st time that I've seen the same song twice on the same episode. They played Stevie's "As" (which I thought was another odd ballad for a dance show like Soul Train) and then Sister Sledge came out and performed "Always", a disco remake of "As".

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I don't care too much for these disco-era shows. The performances are still pretty good (Brick was tight as hell) but I don't like the disco dancing or the disco songs that they were playing on these shows. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer the early to mid '70's shows and those mid-'80's shows when hip hop was 1st starting to permeate the Soul Train playlist.

Since they have been airing the old episodes, I've noticed one particular guy she seemed to dance with more than others. However, I have noticed that she seemed to dance with a lot of different guys from episode to episode.

They haven't gotten real heavy into disco yet. They get more into it in 1978 and 1979.

I love disco songs and I love the dancing when they are dancing by themselves without physical contact with their partner. However, when they start all that "guy twirling the girl around" like the Asian girl was doing last weekend, that's the kind of dancing I hate and always have. It looks too much like something in a nerdy ass ballroom. I hate choreographed dances of any kind (including shit like Michael Jackson used to do in his videos later). I like the ass-shakin', tittie rollin', hip grindin' "fuckin' with clothes on" type dances people do when they just do what they what they feel....kinda like Evelyn "Champaigne" King did.

Maybe it's just me, but I prefer the early to mid '70's shows and those mid-'80's shows when hip hop was 1st starting to permeate the Soul Train playlist.

Oh hell naw, I hate those. During those years, hip hop was becoming more stripped down and slower tempo. It was in it's infancy stages of how it eventually became in the 1990s and today. It sure as hell wasn't no bad ass funky jam like "Planet Rock", I'll tell ya that. lol

Also, during those years, more and more crossover R&B was entering into "Soul Train" and it was quickly becoming the "Pop Train". "Soul Train" should have went off the air around the same time that "American Bandstand" did in the mid to late 80s.....1988 at the latest.

The disco era is special to me.It's when I was finally old enough to buy my old records, lol.I would take my allowance and rush to the record store to buy 45s.I remember buying songs like Andy Gibb's "Shadow Dancing",Donna Summer's "Heaven Knows" and Five Special's "Why Leave Us Alone".It was such an exciting time! The years 1976-1980 were incredible. My favorite era for music. So when I see these Soul Train episodes from the late 70s,I get all nostalgic.Takes me back to that time.

And it wasn't just disco music that was dominating.Funk was at it's highest point during that time.P-Funk was cranking out jams like "Flashlight","One Nation Under A Groove" and "Knee Deep".Bands like the Commodores and Earth Wind and Fire were also kicking ass. That's what I love about the late 70s....there was room for everything.

Saw the episode and it was one of the best of the old shows they've shown so far.

The disco era is when I first got into music and buying records also. My first albums were the "Grease" and "Saturday Night Fever" soundtracks. Also, "Live and More" and "Bad Girls" by Donna Summer. Hell, all my first albums were double albums and when I got my first single album, I kind of felt cheated. lol

My first 45s were:

Hot Number - Foxy
Chase Me - Con-funk-shun
Boogie Wonderland - Earth, Wind, and Fire
In The Navy - The Village People
Shake Your Groove Thing - Peaches and Herb

And it wasn't just disco music that was dominating.Funk was at it's highest point during that time.P-Funk was cranking out jams like "Flashlight","One Nation Under A Groove" and "Knee Deep".Bands like the Commodores and Earth Wind and Fire were also kicking ass. That's what I love about the late 70s....there was room for everything.

Hell yeah. The funk got better beginning with the disco era. It got a lot less jazzy and more uptempo and modern/contemporary sounding at the time. Bands like The Barkays, The Isley Brothers, and Brick mixed disco with funk. Even after disco died, funk sounded better in the early 1980s because of it's influence it left behind.
