not only have some of the dates not been confirmed, but maverick has many of the dates/venues/cities just plain wrong. it's much easier to send out incorrect information on their mailing list rather than update the dates on the site. there's only one place for relevant, up to the minute, correct information about Me'Shell...

I saw Me'Shell @ Kimballs (in Emeryville, Bay Area) once. She was great but she had this thing where the lights had to be off b/c it bothers her eyes or something. It was a little wierd looking @ a DARK-ass stage for 2 hours. I don't know, when I go to see somebody I kinda wanna see them, you know? It's just part of the experience, or should be IMO.
It was like a strange, "live" listening party. :O Does she do that @ all her shows? Get some shades girl!

soumynona,
why not tell us how you really feel? actually, i wasnt even refering to whatever emeryville shows you references... i attended her recent Bimbo concert and it was a bore...she sat and didnt move for the majority of the concert...she complained and complained and complained...the show had *zero* energy..and i wasnt the only one who felt that way...two thirds into the show i decided to go the bar and get a drink, to my surpise the bar was jammin...many o comments were made about her lack of enthusiasm...only once did you "feel" the music and that was during Faithful...the rest of the show felt phoned in... it had nothing to do with lights flashing or any ailment she might have...it was just poor showmanship...and ive seen her do *awesome* shows...something about the music from Cookie..while it is great on disc, the translation to live was lacking... and just to show that i am offering fair criticism...I LOVED THE BITTER TOUR!!! her Roxy show wins handsdown the *best concert* ive ever attended award... now, as far as prince ic concerned..from my perspective,.if your at all familiar with my comments about him you will know that I have been very vocal about my unhappiness with the directions he can take during his shows...and, just like Meshell, when I was unhappy with a tour, i stopped attending them... i would have chalked it up to one bad night..but then some friends of mine went and saw her in NY and had the same complaints...AND, another friend from Oakland gave the same complaint, different show...so, more then likely, ill pass...

Take no offense when I say this, but, I just don't get people who go into a "Prince did this, Prince did that, it's better than what Prince is doing..." speil when the recording artist they're not disgruntled with is even minutely criticized. When the fact of the matter is that Prince and/or Prince's situation most times has nothing to do with what's being talked about. But all of a sudden they take the opportunity to go into a list of complaints. Complaints are fine and should be aired as long as they're valid (certain business practices of his club, ticket prices, etc.), but I notice around here if you take ONE minor aspect of someone's favorite artist to task said person will always find a way to bring up Prince out of the blue. Sometimes it could be something he said or did 15 or 20 years ago. Sometimes it's just them saying so and so is better than Prince (musically speaking) when a certain artist is criticized yet Mr. Nelson had nothing to do with the conversation from the get-go. And believe it or not, all Prince fans don't think Prince is better at every single aspect of his craft than anyone else who ever walked the earth. I guess comments like that are designed to get a Prince fan's goat. It's not just you, it's certain others around here too who do it quite frequently. It's like some folks have a Prince-sized chip on their shoulder about certain things. To me it's SORT OF akin to one sibling being told on, then the other one bringing up something out of the blue just to one-up him/her. Ps, Kee, if Meshell is a Black angry woman, I think she has reason to be. There are important things to be angry about, in many areas of life. The bright ones know how to channel their anger productively. And Meshell has done that. Quite well. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

suomynona said: the reason the lights were turned down more than they usually are were because folks kept on insisting on taking flash photographs during the shows.
being epileptic, flashes can give her seizures... and even worse, kill her. so by the time she asked for the whites & yellows to be turned completely down, she was quite ill. WHOA, I didn't know she's epileptic. Damn, and people STILL took pictures after they were told to stop?? That's rude as HELL. Well that makes sense (the lights being down). It's still not the ideal way I wanna see a concert but I understand her reasons. I'd absolutely pay to see her again. She was great @ Kimballs, she was great in SF years ago - was that Bimbo's? Some "Gold" tour or something... didn't that vaguely have something to do with Prince or am I trippin' & confusing it w/ the Gold album? Anyway, I'll always dig Me'Shell (despite the fact that I haven't picked up Cookie yet ). I may skip this tour but I'll never count her out...

suomynona said: i'm able to comment on both positives & negatives about both artists, because i believe i am fair to both... and because i am huge admirer of both bodies of work. one of the artists appreciate constructive criticism, the other does not. one of the artists surrounds themselves with only yes people, while the other does not... one of the artists mentioned will continue to grow because of this, while the other artist will be remembered for things that that artist has done in the past... That's exactly why I will buy a ticket to see Meshell in November in Paris, and why i won't buy one to see Prince in october. I don't need to waste my money on artists who got nothing to say anymore, who got so much & so little to share... Matt, I'll let you know about the Meshell show.

That's quite fine, anybody who isn't blind to both aspects will do the same. But it really had nothing to do with the context I was talking about. This post not for the wimp contingent.
