but music is so much more subjective then sports. first of all its silly that folks try to compare artist but its even sillier to use popularity as a litmus for talent.

Exactly my point. Comparing athletes is just as silly. People start to put all their stock in some individual being the "next" individual. TTD didn't need to be the next Prince. If his fans appreciate what he brings to the table, that should be enough. Nobody is ever going to be Prince in this or the "next" life. Just like no one will ever be the next Michael Jordan. Labeling individuals this way only leads to dissapointment because the most anyone can ever be is themselves. I totally love and appreciate TTD for who he is and what he brings I don't need him to be the next anything.

TTD could have been a great artist if he didn't try to rip off Prince's style.

Harold was supposed too be the "next Mike" in atheletic ability/dunking only not as all all around talent.

Regardless he was nicknamed Baby Jordan or some shit wasn't he? I'm not saying he wanted it that way but the public always has a way of trying to turn someone into the next - insertwhoeverthefuckuwant.

I love TTD, but he skipped 1999 & Purple Rain and went straight to Around the World in a Day.

Prince lost lots of fans, too, but he had more to lose.

didn't it have to do with playing ping-pong and then some weird homoerotic ESP soul-meld kind of thing? i rememeber reading TTD's account of it and i was all like, "i really can't decode this mess, i'm gonna go watch gunsmoke" wacky

it was like terence was channeling zelaira or something. eek
falloff EXACTLY but did u hear the account of someone else...cant even remember who that was there.Totally different.I heard that TTD was like roaming around trying 2 be noticed by people who werent "famous" and nobody was really impressed that he was there. Then like he was in the studio and he hardly said anything and Prince hardly payed him any attention until he played a bad note on the guitar.Prince just gave him the "wtf" face and he looked like a little embarrassed kid.Thats about all that happened according 2 this account lol

This is where people fuck up when they get around P. If u want P to be cool with u, then u have to just be yourself and show that you're at peace with just being yourself. Only then will your confidence show. If u come in there trying to be something that you're not, P will eat u alive. One thing a lot of people don't realize or they tend to forget is that P is from the streets. Old school street. Simply put; Prince is an o.g. U think P couldn't tell that Terrence was on this 'I'm going to try to act like Prince" trip? P probably respected Terrence's talent. But Terrence would have gotten a lot further with P if he didn't show any fear and just kicked it. If u come in trying to copy him or if you're falling all over yourself kissing his ass, u can forget it. Everyone is an equal and u must exude this. Then, that's when u get the respect. When you're truly talented, u don't have to go out of your way to show it. Folks aren't blind or deaf. So just let it do it's thing.

Sorry but these guys don't really look alike. And yeah he was supposed to be the next P. Heck of a talent TTD. I would really have liked to see him in concert back in the day.

No shit. Besides the fact that they're both light skinned brothers, that's where the resemblence ends.

Well, some brother out in the audience during Terrence's performance at the 87 Grammy's sure thought so. With P AND Michael both sitting in the audience, some cat yelled out during D'Arby's song "Go head, Prince!". That was really fucked up. To Terrence's credit, he didn't lose his cool. He just kept performing.

I prefer him to Prince as well and I don't understand why some people think he copied Prince's style because that's just not true at all. I wonder if any of these people ever gave a second listen to any of his albums shrug. I guess they just came overhere from the NPGMC and never listen to anyone else but Prince shrug. Sananda/TTD is an amazing artist, a great singer and songwriter and what difference does it make anyway if he looks like Prince or doesn't shrug.
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

They are similar, but more in the way you can compare Michael Jackson to Elvis. They don't look alike, sound alike, move alike, etc, but there are similarities in the type of artist they are.

Both Prince and Sananda are multi-instrumentalists and compose all their stuff.

But the themes of their music are different.

They also do r&b & rock & cross other musical boundaries, have great sense of musical history, they're a little goofy, they think highly of themselves, they dance, they do lush vocals, they genderbend to some degree, they are sex symbols, sing in high voices, they don't fit neatly into any pop category, they are probably control freaks, they're producers, they both changed their names

but they don't look or sound like each other, no

I remember reading a interview on TTD's site asking him would he like to work with P. He said he would love to, but it would never happen because they think too much alike and the "sheer brilliance" between the both of them would cross cancel each other...or some mess like that.

TTD to me looked more like Lisa Bonet's twin brother more than P. I was never big into him (because of the "Sgt. Pepper" remark..I'm a huge Beatles fan) but he is talented. I respect him.

I believed the hype and went to see him at the Warner Theater, D.C. in 1987 and it was horrible. He couldn't sing and he tried to be James Brown. One of the only concerts I ever walked out on.

Interestingly enough, his website has an archive of concerts and the D.C. one isn't listed there. (it says 'not all venues known') Maybe he doesn't want to remember that night.

I felt bad for him sort of. I mean nobody clapped and everyone was like "Who does he think he is?"

Anyone else go to that show or hear about it?
