IMO Axl was (is) the last great "old school" rockstar - Kurt the pioneer of the New Breed

Kurt, even though he himself said some assclownish things during his career, if I'm not mistaken (like Pearl Jam were sellouts).

In Axl's defense, wasn't he just showing the seediness of life in the city from another person's perspective when he wrote One In A Million rather than trying to be a racist and whatever else?

kurt has got better lyrics

But he disqualified himself by chickening out (ami english: Bailing)
axl never really had anyreal good lyrics, but a killer voice.

Both disappointments really

Kurt. He would have been a great artist with any decent musicians (no disrespect to the mighty Dave Grohl), but Guns 'n' Roses' greatness was about much more than just Axl.

Just in terms of singing, too, I don't want to listen to Axl all day, but Kurt had a great voice.

I vote for Axl also. At least I can feel happy listening to a GNR classic.

I love Axl, GnR are one of my favorite bands, but I'm going with Kurt on this one.

Nirvana changed the face of rock forever, whereas we've been waiting far too fucking long for Chinese Democracy.

It's close but, Kurt wins.

Nope. Not according to Wikipedia:
In response to the accusations, Rose initially stated that he did not understand homosexuals, and spoke of negative experiences in his past, such as a seemingly friendly man who let him crash on his hotel room floor and then tried to rape him.

Admittedly, that's a horrible story, but to take it out on all "immigrants" "niggers" and "faggots"?...screw him. There was no irony or character building in that song, no matter how people try to spin it now.

I think some of the lyrics were ignorant & idiotic, but if I was to defend them I would say that he was writing from the perspective of a fucked up kid from a small town who'd just moved to the seedier part of one of the biggest cities in the world. It doesn't excuse what he says, but I think he was expressing honest fucked up thoughts.

I completely agree with this. I'm not racist or homophobic and I love that tune. In the same way, I can enjoy Gangsta Rap, "American History X", "Brown Sugar", roots reggae, and "Sister", by Prince.
