I'm not missing this tour (catching the dc gig myself). If the shows she did last year in Europe and a few stateside are any indication of the direction she's taking, we may be in for a rockem-sockem headbanging treat (While i didn't get to see any of those shows myself i heard rumors & clips here and there...and then 3 recordings of some of the European shows [Rome, Budaphest, Switzerland] made it onto the web, and let me tell ya, I'm STILL playing those more than anything i have in my collection. Even though its obvious that she's breaking in different bands & trying out new material & switching up players even within the span of those 3 shows, in the end the MUSIC itself is STILL asskicking! powerful pulsing and in your face. I loved that shit! so now im curious after taking a hiatus, i'm curious what she's 'settled on' (IF she's settled on anything ...we know Meshell and she always has the potential to shoot from the hip and change shit up on the fly...so who KNOWS what vibe we're gonna get starting in DC...could be anything...which is JUST how i like it too . Suprise me i say. I DON'T wanna be able to guess the setlist (like you can at so many artists shows...so many artists often do 'concert by numbers' styled shows...they do their big hits that they think we all want to hear, and then the may sprinkle in a few newish tracks, and a cover tune or two. But ususally there aren't any significant suprizes what they play or how they play it. Now I'm not saying thats always a band thing...depending on the band, sometimes it can still be a reall good music experience. But what i like most about MESHELL is that she often DOES change what she plays and, more importantly, how she and the band plays it. So thats my only expectation of this tour...that it'll have songs and approaches that i wont expect...

I do wish she would have been able to use the guitarist that she had on those 2006 stateside gigs & that Rome gig in May though...Michael Severson is his name and this guy is amazing in my opinion. I checked his site though, and it looks like he's touring with someone else at this point so i doubt he's playing with Meshell any time soon, or at least not at these first gigs. Ah well the cat is a baddass in his own right if you ask me, I hope he and Meshell hook up again somewhere down that musical highway...in the mean time i'll listen to the Rome set again, or go to meshells myspace (link below)...theres an audio up of 'Come Smole My Herb' from Rome set with Severson playing guitar...so go listen for yourself and see what you think.

anywayz I'll be at that DC show checkin out the new stuff. Hope some of yall get to catch one of these upcoming shows yourselves so you can see in person why i'm such a junkie of Meshells stuff...

Shit she's in DC this week and I can't go.

Back in the day, my boys Federico Pena (keys) and Dave Dyson (Bass) used 2 play in her band, but I don't think they still R.

I met her briefly in my D.C. days... She's cool.
