Wasn't Terrence Trent D'Arby supposed to be the next Prince?

Lord knows Terrence looked enough like Prince to have been his lil brother

i think TTD was on his way to a fair amount of superstardom until that comment about "neither fish nor flesh" came out, where he allegedly said it was a better album than "sgt. pepper"...then i remember he was treated like a joke, and even though that album is good, it didn't stand up to the boast. shame, because there are a lot of underrated gems on that album.

If somebody labels u as the next 'whoever' it usually suggest that u are fast on your way to being the next 'has been'. If u are gonna be the next real deal then i dont believe u will be labeled at all. Labels should only be applied once a career has been established and cemented, if at all. James brown wasnt labeled soul brother number one when he started out. He earned it.

TTD does have one of the greatest soul voices ever though. that guy can channel any of the greats.

co-sign.

The very thought of someone saying that so-and-so could be the next Prince makes me sick.

There's only one man of Pop Royalty worthy enough to be known as Prince, that's the way it's always going to be.
And besides, why would you want somebody to be "the next Prince"?
That's like saying that Prince isn't good enough for you anymore and you're looking for the next best thing. cry that thought breaks my heart.

falloff EXACTLY but did u hear the account of someone else...cant even remember who that was there.Totally different.I heard that TTD was like roaming around trying 2 be noticed by people who werent "famous" and nobody was really impressed that he was there. Then like he was in the studio and he hardly said anything and Prince hardly payed him any attention until he played a bad note on the guitar.Prince just gave him the "wtf" face and he looked like a little embarrassed kid.Thats about all that happened according 2 this account lol

I liked Terrance Trent D'Arby and I even have a couple of his songs, but he ain't no Prince. Man can't move and lord knows he doesn't have that lovely bubble butt like Prince has.

And the last time I saw TTD--I was bored and googled him--he had bleached his hair silver/blonde like Sisquo and changed his name to something I couldn't pronounce.

He was trying to "get nasty" like Prince...his last album was called "Vibrator" and that scared the hell outta me. LOL.

Prince is the ONE and the ONLY and the BEST!

No..I think Georgio (remember him?).. was supposed ta be tha next Prince..the guy had some real talent, plays just as many instruments as Prince, was a one man band in tha studio, and even had a coupla hits in the late 80's...and Princ e was really slacking at the time...I dont know why that gut didn't make it...

I don't know why people are even looking for "the next Prince".
What's wrong with the one we have? [Unless this is a "device" record companies are using to sell records... if so, I have a problem with their stupid 'marketing strategy']

No matter how u slice it, nobody will ever come close.
Prince is the ultimate regarding "musicianship", dedication, brilliance, versatility, and personality.

This thread makes me sad... that anyone could suggest such a thing.

I thought it was pretty cool when he thanked Prince in the liner notes of Symphony of The Damn

Well, TTD has released 3 more albums since Vibrator in 95, after battling record companies for several years. And he grew his hair back - although I thought the bleached look was good (years before Sisqo)

dead Stop the madness, I can't take it anymore.

I don't want or care to know who was supposed to be "the next Prince"

I accept no substitutes!

mad has nobody listened to a word I've said?

I'm perfectly happy with Prince, I don't need people going around saying that somebody will be "the next one"... Prince is the ultimate, so stop trying to replace him, record companies

duh I can't take this anymore...

listen, they're saying that because hes "the next Prince" per se. It's because he had that Prince-esque attitude, and still does. He takes risk with his music and appearance just like how Prince has done.
He's also one of a hell of an artist. I suggest u check the guy out
