First listen, I love "Body and Soul" to death. It has a Southern rock/blues, "boot stomping" vibe to it.....kinda reminds me of
Joan Osborne's "Help Me". That one got the repeat button about 10 times. I picture a stripper dancing to this one in cowboy boots. I can totally deal with Tori changing genres a little, like in this song and others along the same lines. "Big Wheel" has a similar vibe, but it's just so , imo. It just sounds like a typical country/honky tonk song that I swear I've heard before over the years on some local country station. Surprisingly I actually think it's the piano I don't like in that. Others that I liked instantly and got the repeat were "Code Red" (love the base line with the minor chords ), "Teenage Hustling", "You Can Bring Your Dog", "Father's Son" (Interesting layering of vocals w/ somber piano & drum instrumentation), "Dragon". "Devils and Gods" (love the harp and acoustic guitar) along with "Fat Slut" should be full length songs instead "Mr. Bad Man" and "Secret Spell",imo. Other than "Big Wheel", those are the two that I don't see myself hitting repeat on. "Mr. Bad Man" after first listen is kinda annoying in a Mr. Rogers too happy go lucky kind of way....musically, not lyrically. "Girl Disappearing" uses strings, but I'm not really drawn to it, like I have been with her other songs with strings. At first I was a little disappointed that she wasn't using the harpsichord and choosing to go down a more rock driven path, but I ended up liking the heaviest songs from the album. I was kinda hesitant about the number of songs too.....but it didn't really drag. "Body and Soul" definitely makes up for my hatred of "Big Wheel", and lukewarm response to "Secret Spell". Why oh why is that the first single? There are so many songs on that album to choose from. I heard it wasn't being played on radio stations because of "MILF". It'd only get play on country stations around here anyway, and then with the banning of "milf", I doubt it's getting any play at all. Maybe some college station will play it....not that I'll listen to it. The songs that were put out there as clips prior to the album leaking are my least favorites....and it was really setting me up for a huge disappointment for the album. "Teenage Hustling" is supposed to be the second single, so that's good. I wouldn't say it's Tori's best, but definitely not her worst. That title goes to Beekeeper, imo. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

Most of the songs are pretty average in length. that's true but it feels that way 'cause some of the lyrics are short so she'd be repeating a chorus for 1:50 minutes or so till the song fades out.

Entertainment Weekly review:
American Doll Posse, Tori Amos' ninth album, is sung from the POV of five characters, each represented in the booklet by various costumes and wigs, à la 2001's Strange Little Girls. Good luck figuring out who's who, since ''Isabel,'' ''Clyde,'' ''Pip,'' ''Santa,'' and ''Tori'' mostly seem to share their creator's sassy, antipatriarchal, divine-feminist sensibility...but they'll all be getting their own blogs, so we can sort that out later. Too bad Posse is a conceptual wreck, because it benefits from some of the beefiest, most borderline-glam-rock moments Amos has put on record. C+

ditto. at 1st, i can honestly say i was pretty surprised by certain songs such as Mr.Bad Man, Secret Spell & U can bring your dog,, now i can't help but find them so much fun. P.S. Girl Disappearing is skyrocketing to the top of my list at the moment, thanks to the addictive strings.

Hey mods, can we please make one of these a sticky?

I'm still stuck like glue on "Devils and God", "Body and Soul" and "Father's Son". I love how my favorites are paired together on the track list. Genre wise, it's a nice contrast."Father's Son" sounds like it could've been on Scarlet's Walk.....the subtle tribal-like drum. These songs are making their way onto my favorite Tori songs of all time list. Has anyone read all of the blogs/myspace pages yet.....fans are responding to them like they're really different people. To me it's still Tori. Santa's listed as a gemini on the myspace page....oh god. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

I wonder after the album drops world wide and the hype dies down if the blogs are gonna still be up? Who's keeping Santa's myspace page up. Is that account gonna eventually close? looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

She's o.k.
Another one of those singer/songwriters whom I don't undestand why they have such avid fans. But I'll give the album a try, since her songs don't strain my ears nearly as bad as Bjork.
