ONCE MORE WITH FEELING THE BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER THREAD!! Yeah I know this thread will die a quick and somber death, but I just recently bought the disc, (I had it on dvd for yrs). but lyrically this cd is amazing. Its basically the script for the whole season. Each song's theme basically tells you what is coming in the season. And I didn't know that Joss also did the music?!! now Ill go away and listen to "under your spell" again. cheers. Goddamn, where's that top 75 albums of the 2000s thread? This was my number 4 CD!
And Amber Benson's "Under Your Spell" is one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time! When the epsiode first aired, I swear I must have rewound that scene 10 times, I couldn't believe how awesome that song was. Yes, Joss wrote all the music too. That's why Joss Whedon is god. Can you tell I like this album?

God, I loved this ep, and not jsut because I'm a BuffyDork, either. Most musical episodes in TV series are badly done and so clearly the writer's grasping at straws for ideas, and do nothign at all to advance the plot or storyline. The music is often mis-matched with the character meant to be singing it as well.
But not Once More With Feeling, no. This was different. It moved the various plotlines along, introduced new elements, (Spike and Buffy kiss here -just a taste of what was about to go down between those two later) and both referenced earlier points in the series and foreshadowed to what was still to come. And best of all -all the music; every single song was completely, perfectly in character. Yay, Joss! "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Alyson Hannigan's singing voice must be awful. Joss didn't give her any of her own songs to sing.

She actually requested not to be given a solo. She was the one afraid her voice wasn't good enough. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Me and my friends are probably the only Buffy fans you'll ever meet who didn't love that episode.
Spike's song "Rest in Peace" was cool, though.

Spike's song "Rest in Peace" was cool, though. Dude had this nifty Billy Idol vibe happening. I like. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

And without Tara, TV history would be minus one lesbian witch orgasm song, and that would be a terrible thing. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Good episode compared to everything that surrounds it (the whole season in fact). The musical is a neat idea and well executed, but the quality of the episode doesn't touch anything from season 2 or 3. or half of season 5 in fact.
I'll Never Tell is my favorite. Hystical. And I get it stuck in my head all the time.
