Julian Lennon sells stake in Beatles songs

NEW YORK-Julian Lennon, the 44-year-old elder son of John Lennon, has sold a financial stake in his late father's compositions for the Beatles to Primary Wave Music Publishing, a year-old New York City concern, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The deal is to be announced on Friday, the Journal said.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, the Journal said. But it quoted the parties as saying in a statement that the share of the catalog was "significant."

The deal relates to the songwriting income generated by the compositions, as opposed to the publishing rights. The rights to most of the compositions John Lennon wrote with Paul McCartney are owned by Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

Primary Wave last year paid an estimated $50 million for a 50 percent stake in the music-publishing catalog of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, which it bought from his widow, Courtney Love.

Lets not get to crazy about this, Julians stake in anything from his father was about as valuable as us selling of our John Lennon CD's. He owned nothing, he was given a small % by Cynthia Lennon but its value is basically nothing, it has no weight in terms of ownership. It was like in 1992 when PRINCE was a VP at Warner Brothers, it meant Nothing! Julian basically had to BUY things of John's (yes HIS father) at auctions because Yoko had sold them without even letting Julian have anything, so lets not make this a "How could U do that Julian" thread. The facts are HE OWNED nothing, he was given nothing and this deal means nothing.

I wish Julian was in the news for doing some new music instead of this.

He's not a bad singer/songwriter himself.

Wierd to think Julian's now lived four years longer than his old man (tho that's not hard since John died young).

On a flippant note, if Jules keeps going, we won't need to have one of those 'What would John Lennon have looked like at 50, 60' etc pictures. We can just turn to Jules smile. He's nearly the spit of his dad.
