Amy Winehouse Hey Orger's!
Let's discuss the new brit sensation that's finally getting well-deserved media attention here in the states - Amy Winehouse. I think she's great. I do think this kind of attention should have been giving to Nikka Costa as well because she was a funky woman in her own right but Amy is quite soulful and has a tone and texture that she delivers quite well. It's not the forced contrived idiocy that miss Joss Stone conveys. I don't believe it. I don't feel it. With Amy I believe and deeply feel everything. My favorite song off of the new album is: "He can only hold her". Orger's share your thoughts.

Ditto to all the above, even the fav song!
Two comments though: -her first album is great as well! Titled Frank, it sounds more contemporary, but has that same nasty, funky vibe. Recommended. -While it being the point to have that sixties soul sound, most of the songs do have an actual resemblance to one particular classic soul song. The strongest one being "You know I'm no good". That beat is so similar to Otis Redding's (with Carla Thomas) "Tramp" Oh, and by the way, how many tracks does the US version of her album have?

There are 12 tracks on the US version I just got this yesterday and it's easily my favorite album of 07 so far! peace Every minute of last night is on my face today....

DId addicted really come with the download? If you pop the CD in the computer it says addicted, but it's just a remix of You Know I'm no good. I had to download Addicted illegally. There are 12 tracks on the IMPORT, I thought. Christian Zombie Vampires

Btw, it's an 2006 release...

Wow, this is like the first new Amy thread in what must be a week. The org is slacking.
I bought the U.S. CD at Best Buy the day of release and the label says ten tracks on the back, but there is a bonus track which is the remix of "You Know I'm No Good" with Ghostface Killah--11 tracks total. The U.S. iTunes version though is 12 tracks, the 12th track being a Hot Chip remix of "Rehab". It's all very confusing.

I think Addicted is one of the strongest songs on the Cd, So I was befuddled as to why its wasn't on the US Release. If it's due to Pot references, the record label is totally frakked up.

I am really diggin' her right now.
Don't have either album, but from what I hear online, I probably will. That cut "Rehab" swings. Does anyone here care 2 compare her 2 albums? "He's a musician's musician..."

I love the album!
My favourite songs are "Me & Mr Jones" and "Just friends". Her first album "Frank had potential but was completely ruined by bad production.I'd love to check out Winehouse live. /peace Manki

I dont doubt the talent, and she is different from whats out there, my issue is that im trying to get into artists that are going to stick around and have an output of music that i can get into, im tired of getting an artist which 1-2 good albums and then they just quit. Amy reminds me alot of Fiona Apple, not musically really, just she seems like a ticking time bomb, she already cancelled some shows out in LA which is very "Fiona-ish", Fiona actually pulled that crap here in NYC awhile back, she got into her show played 3 songs and said "Fuck, icant do this, the sound sucks" and left the stage and didnt come back and since the show started no refunds were issued. Hopefully Amy is not falling into the mold but i already see it happening. Is it the artists fault or the record companies? record companies don't develop artists over the long term anymore like they used to.

After all of the hype and people praising her around here, I bought the cd. The single "Rehab" was better than most of the album. I was suprised at how much she directly ripped the Motown sound but somehow didn't improve on it.
I'd like to think that maybe she'll grow into her own sound because this disk was under-whelming.

Is it the artists fault or the record companies? Well in Fiona's case i think it was more her fault, though i know she blamed the label for not putting the record out, it was more her "lunacy" that led to this whole thing with her. Even when Prince was in "fights" with warner his output was tremendous, he found ways to get stuff out. I hope Amy does find a way to deal with that, because once shes not "the in thing" you go back to selling to the loyals, every artist deals with this, label support or not you have to continue find a way. Still, I wouldn't say bad production, it's a solid debut.

I abosolutely LOVE her! Her voice is so refreshing to hear on the radio.
She is very cool, and I hate to be cliche, but I can't get enough of 'Rehab' I hope she comes to my area to perform If you will, so will I

No the music doesn't sonicly blow me away, but I am just pleased to hear that someone...anyone can take a "dead genre" and breathe a little life into it. I think what we're going to see from her, is her tackleing other familiar forms of music...but still keep the blues. To me the magic is in her voice and lyrics. Christian Zombie Vampires
