DJs, Hippity-Hoppers & Electronicats  Why is it that there's never any talk around here about...

...Drums of Death It's primarily a collaboration with Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and includes contributions from Vernon Reid and Chuck D. They re-do 3 classic PE tracks (Brother's Gonna Work It Out, B-Side Wins Again & Public Enemy #1). DJ Spooky's revamped B-Side track and Chuck D's fresh vocals makes the original sound almost tame by comparison. Now I admit i'm not a DJ/Hip-Hop/Electronica afficiando, but I can feel this cat. tA  Tribal Disorder

Thanks for reminding me. GOod memories about Riddim Warfare. I never realised Thurston Moore was on there in the time, as I was oblivous to Sonic Youth back then.
He and DJ Shadow rocked my world for a summer... And kewl that he is so diverse, I never knew, now looking into getting more of his stuff. |

i was heavily into this cat in the mid to late 90's! His live shows were sick! i caught him at an intimate show a friend of mine arranged and his instruments consisted of a turntable, computer and a stand up bass spaced out with effects, it was ill! part of if sounded like elvin jones and jimmy garrison on acid. 
i even  with him after his set until we started arguing about Miles feelings on Ornette Coleman according to his biography. | |

I don't know much about nationally known DJs but I do like JM Silk. He mixed his ass off on the 2 CDs of the "Tom Joyner Old School Morning Mix". He used to mix his ass off every Tuesday and Thursday mornings until he started mixing the old with the new. Then I said "Hell naw, NEXT!!!!!". Andy is a four letter word. | |

...DJ Spooky? Hey tA. I've heard of DJ Spooky. He's in a slightly similar pool with cats like DJ Shadow, Kid Koala, Nightmares on Wax and some people may say Autechre, but I'm kinda stretching that. Personally, I don't talk about him on here or most of those artists because I'm simply not that deep into a lot of trip-hop/IDM/glitch type music @ the moment. I got to be in a certain mood to play that. I mean, yeah, you've got some really skilled people doing it [...and I dig Bonobo's "Days To Come" -- great album, please check that out], but I'm just into other sounds right now like Slagsmålsklubben and contextually brighter electronica such as blip blop. All in all, it's just a choice thing for me, not that I haven't heard of him. I hear his cuts on the Music Choice Electronica channel, so he's known among those who know. | |

Hey back Mara, I'm not that deep into him myself but he seems to be involved in an eclectic mixture of things, hence my interest. DJ Spooky has mainstream appeal compared to most "electronic" acts, a lot like Aphex Twin. Much kudos to the guy though, I should get more of his stuff too. | |
