The Linn 9000 (The Father Of The Akai MPC Series) Thread http://www.rogerlinndesig...seum.shtml Released in 1984, the innovative Linn Electronics Linn 9000 combined a sampling drum machine with a multi-track MIDI sequencer. Improving upon the LinnDrum, it also included user sampling, touch-sensitive drum pads, a programmable hihat decay slider, an alphanumeric LCD display, a programmable mixer and SMPTE sync. Originally sold for $5,000 ($7,000 fully expanded), about 1100 units were produced. The last units were sold in February of 1986, when Linn Electronics closed its doors due to strong competition and the growing pains of a small business. SIDENOTE: This drum machine/sampler inspire the first two drum machines of the Akai MPC series (MPC60 & MPC3000). [Edited 4/1/07 22:24pm]

I´m not really hip to the technological aspects of drum machines, so I ´ll ask this stupid question : Is it possible to recreate the LM1 sound without actually owning a real LM1 ? I´m asking this because a friend of mine told me there´s no need for the LM1 or other drum computers since modern software made them obsolete.
But can someone do the same things Prince did in the early 80´s without actually using a real LM1 ? And which other drum computer or audio software comes closest to the LM1 sound ? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

The thing when using Linn sounds on softwere is that there's often just the presetsounds that are sampled. Prince used to experiment with the sounds, pitching the different sounds in order to get the sounds he wanted. /peace Manki

Except in my case, I'm use the Linn Drums samples within FL Studio. But you can also use them in Reason, Orion, & Project5. There are also plenty of producers that also use Linn Drum samples within the MPCs & ASR-10.

Thanks for the info. I read in some Prince bios that he used to change the beat with flangers and other effect pedals, hence my question.
I really, really like that old school Linn drum sounds he created, like in She´s Always In My Hair or the beginning of Sex Shooter and other classic examples.
