Why am I reminded of Lauren Hill? i like 'rehab' a LOT, don't get me wrong....but there are FAR better songs on that album, and i hope the quick appeal of 'rehab' doesn't make her a one-hit wonder and overshadow what is a really strong album. I think we are one behind single wise. You know I'm no good is the next one. Or is it Back to Black, which the video just came out. It is HAWT!!!!! Christian Zombie Vampires

Fave track:
"Wake Up Alone". Is this what Christina had in mind with "Back To Basics", only with more of a what...jazzy or big band sound???

I hope they get as much attention as "Rehab" which I think mainly caught on because it was being used as background music during Britney's mental meltdown. Maybe Britney will go hardcore goth in time for "Back to Black" to hit as a single in the U.S.

No so for "Rehab". | |

I think her marketing campaign here is a bit wierd (like the album trackings) She is getting a lot of play on the radio and I swear I have heard her being blasted out of cars and clubs. Rehab may be a novelty, but I hope that it causes folks to pick her up and get into the less quirky songs. Christian Zombie Vampires

I just checked asg's Billboard thread and it said that "You Know I'm No Good" and "Rehab" both debuted on the Hot 100 at the same time at #s 90 and 91 respectively. I think that means that people are downloading both songs equally, but the label seems to be pushing the former.

DOes anyone think that Perez Hilton could be one of the rreasons it's doing so well.
He's also pushing Mika too. I'd be interested in seeing those numbers. But unlike Amy, Mika is not getting airplay...at least not that I know of. Christian Zombie Vampires

I really, really like this album. I think she sounds absolutely sincere, not phony in any way, like too many nowadays. I especially dig those old-school backing vocals that she does, you know, not those overtly multi-tracked, slick and thick Michael Jackson-like vocals, but those 1940/1950 vocals. It's a bit short though, with around 30 minutes.
I think I'm gonna go see her live next month.

I don't know bout that, Perez can be pretty Hit or Miss when it comes to his music selections, granted Perez may have pushed Amy and Mika, but I think the info was already criss crossing the globe prior to PH blogged it. I had already heard of Amy, had the first cd, and Mika was pinging around here on the org btw of Mike. But unlike Amy, Mika is not getting airplay...at least not that I know of. i don't think perez has THAT much influence, so no. plus, he was pushing amy more as a new celebrity trainwreck moreso than a great new music sensation (unlike his pushing of mika), so i don't think i'd call his coverage of her sloppiness "positive promotion", ha...of course, there's no such thing as bad publicity, so maybe it didn't hurt when he showed the pic of her with VCR.

I just started hearing about her a few weeks ago, probably for the org. I've seen the video "You Know I'm No Good" a few times, and check out her myspace page. Just bought the cd yesterday and can't get enough of it. Dang I didn't realize how short the cd is and the songs average about 3 mins each.
I love how it captures the 50's and 60's, especially with the girl group, bluesy, soul sound wrapped into one. Fave tracks: You Know I'm No Good Me & Mr. Jones Just Friends Back To Black Love Is A Losing Game Rehab is a good clapping song. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

A solid disc.
I have tix to see her in a few weeks at a tiny tiny club in San Francisco. Based on recent gossip, however, I think the odds of her actually showing up are about about 16 to 1. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

Without attempting to sound negative, her voice clearly mimics that of Dinah Washington from the '50s (I believe). Check her out if you like what Amy's bringing to the party.

No the music doesn't sonicly blow me away, but I am just pleased to hear that someone...anyone can take a "dead genre" and breathe a little life into it. I think what we're going to see from her, is her tackleing other familiar forms of music...but still keep the blues. To me the magic is in her voice and lyrics. Her lyrics are definitely a big part of her appeal for me. "What kind of fuckery is this?" HELLO!

EmeraldCity said: Wow! That was great. She's #1 on my 'want to see live' list. Last month she visited my country without any promotion, not even from own her website. She started at 1:00 a.m. apparently. You've got to love her for that! Comparing both albums: I gave her first album to a lot of friends, most didn't like her. They all hated her 'wining/nagging' voice. She toned that down a bit for this second album. [Edited 3/28/07 3:29am]

If anything, it's more pronounced on the new album - I'm not a fan of her voice, it sounds too affected.

My favourite songs are "Me & Mr Jones" and "Just friends". Her first album "Frank had potential but was completely ruined by bad production.I'd love to check out Winehouse live. /peace Manki I recommended "Frank", but many will be disappointed expecting to hear a prequal to "back to black". Still, I wouldn't say bad production, it's a solid debut. yup i skip it everytime. i like it, but if i want to hear it i can put the radio on anytime....

i think it's great. at least she's not trying to cop off madonna or mariah or something like that. amy's album isn't some great innovation, but at least its influences are unlike anything else being ripped off in pop music right now. i think it's a step in the right direction.

i didn't want to like her when i first heard her, but after the first couple of listens to her album all the way through, i was hooked. i'm a sucker for really good melodic pop, and this album is definitely that.

I think I was the same, didn't wanna like her just b/c of all the hype. But I'm also learning to be less judgemental & just LISTEN - all the fuss I made about Van Hunt & I fucking LOVE him now So I need to be more open, don't let the hype turn me off before I check it out for myself... & I was curious on the first listen But I will NEVER give in to any Britney hype!!

Amy Winehouse is like Robin Thicke to me. I was running her first album Frank for years. Her threads were like cricketville here so I didn't bother talking about her. Now she's all the rage. I like her alot and I'm glad she's getting noticed in America but it's sorta weird since she's been out since like 02' or 03'. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

About her twang. The new album is much easier on the ears. Most people I played "Frank" for, didn't like it on account of her heavy 'American' twang. "Over the top" and "She justifies her name" were the replies. Now, people actually hear the songs, her excellent voice. I was relieved when I heard the album, she toned it down just a bit, enough for people not to be too scared by it, while retaining her trademark.

Her band has a lot to do with that obviously--horn section and two male background soul singers when she played here a few weeks ago really complete the old-school vibe. I'm going back to see her again in May.
