I just find it interesting when I hear people say that, because the vast majority of what I would call essential Mary J. Blige songs are original compositions. In fact, only her version of Rufus' "Sweet Thing" and Rose Royce's "I'm Goin' Down" are what I would call songs that would need to go on an extensive discography of hers. THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. Of course! She isn't just the Queen of Soul; she's the Queen of Covers. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Did he get a pass because he took a song and made it his own? THE MAJORITY OF LUTHER'S COVERS ARE BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL!
