For those who dont watch AMERICAN IDOL

Has anyone who knows that you're really into music asked you something about American Idol and you replied "I dont watch that show" and they're TOTALLY stunned and shocked? I get that all the time and its SO irritating.

Even funnier during last summer Jon Bon Jovi was on Larry King and it was around the time they picked a winner for AI, Larry King asked Jon what he thought, Jon said "I havent seen an episode", Larry looked at him like "How can u not watch AI"! Priceless

I've never seen an episode, but I usually get asked about it by only the occasional relative or co-worker. Friends already know what a music snob I am and that I don't have time for that crap.

Nobody acts shocked that I don't watch it, probably because I broadcast my scathing hatred for it quite often. lol

I stop taking AI seriously after the 3rd season (when Jennifer Hudson got screwed).

I don't watch reality shows at all either. I really don't see the appeal. I mean, my life is already a reality show. Why would I want to watch another one on TV. confused

I just caught crap from the Little League Moms when I told them I'm only watching AI because of the Sanjaya sabatoge plot, especially when it was announced I listen to Howard Stern. eek

"After all," I said,"nobody I know buys any of that music. I mean who listens to that stuff?" Then I got dressed down when a Mom told me "My daughter and I went out on the tour when Carrie Underwood won and we have all the albums." eek

You're still right, though. I've watched most of the shows and there's never been one single person whose album I wanted to buy. I think it's fun TV, but they haven't produced any actual artists.

I posted here because I wish I was one of you guys. I'm very embarassed at how well I know the show.

I actually i have never seen the show but i have seen some clips here and there on the E channel so i do hear the names and things like that. Last summer i caught clip of Katharine McPhee and i was like "wow what a hot lady", from any AI person this is the only CD i own and actually wanted to hear. The thing with IDOL is that its just creating the new face for the moment, it really hasnt brought someone out that a "label" missed, look at any of the BIG sellers and the reason they are selling is because there is already someone out there like them that is selling...case in point....

Daughtry- Same formula as bands like Hinder and NIckelback, boring rock

Carrie Underwood- Same formula as Shania Twain and Faith Hill, soft pop put under country

Kelly Clarkson- Avril Lavigne etcc.formula

Ruben Studdard- Rb needed a crooner at the time, baby Luther

Clay Aiken,Taylor Hicks- Formula, someone that can appeal to the older, AC crowd, the Michael Boltons,Celine Dion,Michael Bubles

So really AI has not introduced to any groundbreaking artists, though some of them do have alot of talent singing wise, but so do a million other people. I think we forget AI is a business, its money is made of the records it sells, mainly the artists that finish in the top4 i think are owned by AI and a certain % of their sales go to the show, so of course AI wants someone that fits whats hot at the moment.

Last year I got really annoyed when the local news spent a lot of time on American Idol contestants. This year I make sure now that the local news I watch is on a different channel. AI is blocked in my house. razz

1. Exactly. AI has failed to introduce any groundbreaking artist. Why? Because (IMHO) the people with the potential to try to be groundbreaking are getting voted off the show too early. Just ask Jennifer Hudson.

2. I disagree with you concerning Katharine McPhee. This is a cute young woman, no doubt. But she want to be Mariah Carey. That's not groundbreaking. That's being a clone.

I'm not into it, never did grab me.

However, I do like Rock Star- both the INXS and the Super Nova versions. Maybe becasue it's so genre specific - rock. And it's fun to see Dave Navarro sit on a little throne with his shirt unbuttoned and cast judgement on these wannabes... as if! lol

Anyone that knows me doesn't even have to ask if I watch "American Idol" because they already know I wouldn't watch a show like that. Anyone who has ever been around me for even a short length of time, knows that I like funk and not boring ass bullshit.
