I wish I was cool enough to be able to say that I have absolutely never heard of the show but that would be impossible.

The sorry ass show and all it's references seem to be on every single channel. If the show isn't on, then there's a rerun of an old season on. The damn "E" channel is always talking about it. It's on the "Today" show all the time. Some of the news channels have whole hour-length shows discussing the damn show (not a one-time show, this seems to be an ongoing discussion show). Hell, the damn advertisement was even on the side of the screen during the ending credits of "Soul Train" (fucking my damn recording up). What's going on? Has Clear Channel bought all the cable channels now? lol

I'm not surprised though. Considering that the music charts have been full of nothing but boring ass music for the last 15 years, it's only natural that a boring ass TV show would be a smash hit.

Anyone that knows me doesn't even have to ask if I watch "American Idol" because they already know I wouldn't watch a show like that. Anyone who has ever been around me for even a short length of time, knows that I like funk and not boring ass bullshit.

While I also enjoy funk music,
I have closed my mind off to boring ass bullshit.

I saw the first one in summer 2002.

I was disappointed because Tamyra Gray didn't win and then after that I only saw her ACTING on television.

Even though I wasn't a fan, I expected that American Idol would put some PUSH behind Justin Guarini. But after I saw what happened to him and other people (Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken) I thought "what is even the point in rooting for these people who will be rewarded with fucked up contracts and NO PROMOTION?" neutral

Like "yay.. you just won nothing" confused unless you're Kelly Clarkson and make something for yourself.

And I can see why vainandy doesn't watch it; shit - a whole bunch of Whitney wannabes.

nod She's still my favorite. I love her album, but it had absolutely no push behind it. I love that she was dropped from J Records because she wouldn't budge on the issue of being involved in the song writing. She stood up for her artistic beliefs, just like her favorite artist (Prince).

I just dont understand why people take this show so seriously. All they're doing is singing. Its not like they're playing an instrument or required to sing an original song that they wrote. I think that would bring more of a "talent" aspect to the show.

In season one when Justine Guirini made it 2 the finals, I knew this show was going 2 be strange from that point forward.

Remember Me?

To all those people who take AI so seriously, and think it produces such talent, they need to remember - it is all about ratings. While I felt sorry for William Hung, when I heard about his whole thing, and how people were laughing at him, it just further proved my belief that - the show was all about ratings. I'll be happy when this show and Simon are faded from memory. Ick.

I watched it a few days ago out of randomness and fell in love with sanjaya. His voice needs a little work but he reminds me of mj and prince appearance wise and I think he has the potential to become big.

Agreed. It's a talent show/beauty pageant/telethon with a mix of live footage and interviews taken during rehearsals.

Has anyone who knows that you're really into music asked you something about American Idol and you replied "I dont watch that show" and they're TOTALLY stunned and shocked? I get that all the time and its SO irritating.

Yeah, I get it too, and what's worse is people ask me why I don't try out for the show and I tell them if I'm gonna whore my way to the top, I'm gonna do it the old fashioned way, not via a show that's no. 1 agenda is to entertain the masses with watching Simon being crass, people who can't sing ride along until the producers can milk something else for interest and these mostly boring twits who may can sing, but have zero personality or interesting qualities. While yes, occasionally you get a great singer come through, I'm not gonna waste my time looking for needles in a haystack. If that's what the masses want, let them be entertained with it.

I also sing in public and get asked all the time why I don't want to do that and I tell them the same thing
