I never heard his first album....is it any good? I remember seeing a video from it....he's riding around on a bicycle, and the song is sampling "A Fifth Of Beethoven" lol Not sure what to make of it,lol
I love his first album, actually more than the second. Pick it up David. If you don't like it, mail it to me and I'll reimburse you.

Robin kinda reminds me of Van Hunt in the sense that the album doesn't really have a genre you can place it in. The bicycle song, lol is my favorite Robin Thicke song.

nod I think Van is a little more eclectic, but I essentially agree.

Not that I ever was or ever will be a huge Jon B. fan I prefer him to Robin Thicke. Yes Jon did have some songs that tended to sound like Babyface, but that's the sound that was hot back when he first came out. Just like now everbody is doing falsetto and being compared to Prince, Marvin Gaye, etc. There was a time when people were trying to sound like K-Ci of Jodeci.

I've said it before and I'll say it again ... Robin is overrated. Totally mediocre sound and a marginal singer.

AMEN to that!!

But his sound is nothing like Babyface at all. Thats the problem, people dont look past his first album...which had a few Babyface like songs.

Oh well...I love JB and Im gonna keep on loving his music.

You are right. But I typically like the lead single off his albums and the rest fell into oblivion. Jon B has had the unfortunate luck of being in the Babyface camp. When folks were tired of Babyface, everyone associated tanked: Jon B, Tony Rich, After 7, even Toni.

Lost Without U
Tell me how u love me more
And how u think Im sexy baby
That u dont want nobody else
U dont want this guy u dont want that guy u wanna
Touch yourself when u see me
Tell me how u love my body
And how I make u feel baby
U wanna roll with me u wanna hold with me
U wanna stay warm and get out of the cold with me
I just love 2 hear u say it
It makes a man feel good baby
Tell me u depend on me
I need 2 hear it

Im lost without u
Cant help myself
How does it feel
2 know that I love u baby

Baby youre the perfect shape
Baby youre the perfect weight
Treat me like my birthday
I want it this way I want it that way I want it
Tell me u dont want me 2 stop
Tell me it would break your heart
That u love me and all my dirty
U wanna roll with me u wanna hold with me
U wanna make fires and get Norwegian wood with me
I just love 2 hear u say it
It makes a man feel good baby

Im lost without u
Cant help myself
How does it feel
2 know that I love u baby

HELL NAW! This song is riddled with insecurities. Prince ain't that insecure. He wouldn't be saying "I'm lost without you", He'd be saying you're lost without me" lol
Seriously though, hell no. Its JUST YOU. All that "I need to hear it" whiny shit is highly unlikely coming from Prince. Go back and listen to "Let's Work" and ask yourself if the same person would have authored both those songs.

You're absolutely right! I wasn't taking into account the content or the message.
BUT...with the sexual inuendos and usage of "2" and "U" all over...it does seem "prince-ish".

I don't think that the song is riddled with insecurities at all. He wrote the song at in his life when everything was going to hell. He was just starting out in the business and nothing was going right. The only thing that he had was his girl,(who later became his wife). When he talks about being "lost without you", he is talking about his music, his woman and his fans...This is what he had said in an interview a few months back. It does seem to me that this board has a problem with people showing any sort of emotion.

Sounds insecure to me. Its the listener's fault, eh? Whateva. Tell me blah, blah, blah...I need to hear it. Tell me I'm the only one this and that...lol Maybe that's not insecure to YOU but to another man, it sounds like he's not too sure of how his woman feels. Most male soul songwriters (the str8 ones at least) don't write like that and Prince sure as hell doesn't normally. What's "sensitive" to some is weak to others. Despite the lyrics, melodically its a very good song. I love the guitar chord progressions.
And as for "U" and "2", you can thank Parliament Funkadelic and a lot of poets for that usage. Prince popularized it, not invented it.

Tell me, as men, are we Ever sure about how our women feels? Also, remember some of the greatest songs ever written have echoed the same sentiment, "Ain't to proud to beg", "I'm losing you". It's funny nobody said anything when David Ruffin was singing about "begging and pleading for your sympathy". Why is it so taboo now, for a guy to show how he feels? It seems like it is okay for a brotha to wanna "lick u up and down", but when it comes time for him to say, I am incomplete without you, people look at him like he has lost his mind...

In my opinion, "Ain't too proud to beg" and "lost without you" ring two different types of sentiments when put in context with their lyrics. You seem to speak as if they come from the same emotion. My point is they do not. You're being an extremist. There's a big area between "You complete me; I'll do whatever to be with you" and "tell me I'm the only man in your world". "I'm the only man in your world, right? Right? Hello? Hello? I need to hear it!" biggrin
Cats like Prince and Maxwell sing with a confidence of "If you just let me, I know I can bring it; Robin almost sounds like a girl saying "Tell me I'm pretty" A man can be sensitive without sounding like he wears the skirt in the relationship.

Where do y'all get this stuff? confused

A person asks to be reasured and they wear a skirt. I think most people like to hear that they are needed every now and then.

Some of you guys, when you don't dig someone, reduce them down to nothing.

I see what you're saying. There's a difference between the sentiments. I personally can identify with both. But men sometimes have to graduate from Thicke to Prince.

But those 2 emotions DO come from the desire to be with someone.

Then again, echoes of the "Lost Without U" theme -- defining one's self by how the woman receives him -- runs through even Prince's music.

"Adore" (without U there is no sea)

"It's Gonna Be Lonely" (if u ever leave, I'll be in a messed up state of blue)

"Why Ya Wanna Treat Me So Bad?"

"Anotherloverholenyohead"

"Condition of the Heart"

Just saying . . . my twocents

One of things that Miles said about P (that always stood out to me) was that P "had the whole pimp/bitch thing down". Sounds crazy but it makes sense.

Is that confidence or the need to prove one's manhood? Robin is singing about something that everyone feels, a person's need to feel wanted and loved by that special person, especially when everything goes to hell.
