true, true, true. Jon B. was good, but shit compared to Robin, he's just watered down. I think Jon had potential, but somehow he's just a "singer", Robin is writing, singing and playing his own songs. It seems that he isn't "trying to be black" either, he's himself. [Edited 3/20/07 17:27pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

[Edited 3/20/07 17:27pm] I don't think trying to be black is/was Jon B.'s problem. He was just trying to be too much like Baby Face. On certain songs, you cannot tell which is which. He was also very one dimenional....It seems like he could do nothing else but, slow ballads. The uptempo numbers that he did seemed very scripted and contrived. After seeing Robin live, I can say true without a doubt.

Not really. They're a little different. Though I really liked Cool Relax, and "Lately" from Stronger Everyday is a banger, it seemed to me Jon B. tries too hard sometimes to play a role. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Two different artists.
When I think of Robin I don’t of any of these guys people keep comparing him to. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Jon B also hurt himself (when he made a comment in VIBE) a few years back about light skinned women and dark skinned women. Sisters boycotted him after that.

Jon B simply suffered from babyfacitis just as tony rich did. I mean it
was only so much of babyface you could absorb. So if people got tired of the original, why would you want to hear a lot from the sound alikes. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

[Edited 3/20/07 17:27pm] Omg I just passed out. Jon is a very talented musician AND producer. He doesnt just sing Jon's downfall is the people he works with. No promotion at all People think he has only 2 albums out, when its really 5 "Nobody makes me bleed my own blood...NOBODY!"

[Edited 3/20/07 17:27pm] Sorry baby, you're wrong http://www.youtube.com/wa...XsCAOjJp4w Jon has SKILLZ. He's highly underrated. I'm less impressed with Robin's lukewarm CD than with Jon, who has been consistent if nothing else the entire time he's been in the business. Jon's sufferes from the glass ceiling of the music biz. He can't go further than his mentor Babyface. Robin is getting the push he's getting because he's riding the pop line and because Justin Timberlake is so popular right now. Jon gets shafted because he's too R&B for a white dude. I call it the Teena Marie syndrome. Robin as NO bangers on his CDs; Jon does. If anything Robin should be aspiring to get to Jon's level musically.

Thank you, Graycap. People forget that Robin's CD was done a good year before Justin's. I posted about him ages ago becuase I had the promo CD long before it came out. He got n0 push at first. As soon as Sexyback dropped, BOOM! Its the battle of the blue-eyed soul brothers. Robin's first release from his 2nd CD was that lame, lmae, lame ass "Wanna Love You Girl" with Pharrell - a total garbage track. The only reason it got pushed out first was because Pharrell was hot at that moment. If Justin hadn't jumped off like he did, Robin would probably be headed the way of Jon as far as popularity goes. The difference is Robin has a rich dad who can make calls and push buttons for him, plus he went the "pop" route with his CD or as I call it - the escape route. Its a way for white singers dabbling in R&B to opt out of R&B if they don't get accepted well enough to sell. They are usually crossover songs designed to go over better with a non-R&B audience. Listen to a "blue-eyed soul" artist's CD. There are usually a couple of tracks on there designed for that purpose. Pink, Christina, etc. all have them. Jon doesn't have them and Remy Shand doesn't have them. Teena never had them.

I agree. Actually, this is the last Robin Thicke thread I'm checking out. Hopefully, if something major goes down someone will be kind enough to send me an Org note. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off
