"Early in the Morning" by the Gap Band

Don't know why, but I've really been jamming a lot to this song lately. This tune is so catchy and funky, I love it.

Early In The Morning
by Gap Band
album: Live & Well (1996)

Oh, I never, you know I loved you till you left me
Oh, I never, you know I cared till you were gone
I was young and foolish, I didn’t know what I was doin’
I didn’t know I lost you till you’re gone
Oh, I never, knew I loved you till you were gone

So I gotta get up early in the morning
To find me another lover
So I gotta get up early in the morning
To find me another lover

So I gotta get up early in the morning
To find me another lover
Gotta get up early in the morning
To find me another lover

Now I gotta get up early every morning
‘Cause the early bird always catches the worm
Now I gotta get up every morning
Gotta make up for the lesson I’ve learned
Gotta find me a lover that won’t run for cover
Gotta find me a lover that won’t run the mother

‘Cause I gotta get up early in the morning
To find me another lover
So I gotta get up early in the morning
To find me another lover

So I gotta get up early in the morning
To find me another lover
So I gotta get up early in the morning
To find me another lover

I was young and foolish, I didn’t know what I was doin’
I didn’t know I lost you till you’re gone
She had a pretty face that drove me wild
I even wanted her to have my child

Early in the morning
To find me another lover
So I gotta get up early in the morning
To find me another lover

So I gotta get up early in the morning
To find me another lover
So I gotta get up early in the morning
To find me another lover

(Team say it)
Gotta find me another lover
Gotta find me another lover
Gotta find me another lover
Gotta find me another lover

(Ladies just sing it one time, sing ladies)
Gotta find me another lover
Gotta find me another lover
Gotta find me another lover
Gotta find me another lover

Early in the mornin’
In the middle of the day, baby
Late at night, mama
Everything gonna be all right

Early in the mornin’
In the middle of the day, baby
Late at night, baby
Everything will be all right

Early in the mornin’
In the middle of the day, baby
Late at night, baby
Everything will be all right

Early in the mornin’, baby
In the middle of the day, baby
Late at night, mama
Everything will gonna be all right, yeah

Early in the mornin’, baby
In the middle of the day, baby
Late at night, mama
Everything will gonna be all right

Interesting that the website that I copied and pasted the lyrics from is showing this song is from 1996. I always thought this was an 80's jam. confuse confuse
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I have seen the Gap band live twice and actually got to meet them once!

The first time I saw them was in 1982 at the Cow Palace in SF. They were the headliners. The opening act was Goodie, then Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five, then Roger/Zapp. The Gap Band and Roger/Zapp turned it out! Very Funky, you could feel the heat coming off the stage when they were on. GMF and the Furious Five really disappointed me, they did not have a live band and rapped to the records. This is common place now a days but back then, I had never heard of that.

The second time I saw them was in late 1983 at the Oakland Coliseum. Again they were the headliners (with Atlantic Star opening and Jeffrey Osborne going second) and this time I got to go back stage and meet them. I went to High School with one of their nieces (Hi Michelle) and she got us backstage. They were kind of pissed since there were so many people backstage, I guess they have a ton of family in this area, but non the less I got to meet them. Charlie seemed the coolest of them all. One guy in the band, "Baby Gap", liked one of the girls I in the group I went with so he was escorting us around all night trying to hit on her. He was kind of cool and introduced us to Jeffrey Osborne.

Again, they put on one hell of a show.

The Gap Band will always be a favorite of mine!

"VI"...I played this album to death when I was a kid...(still do actually)

"OUTSTANDING".... still one of my favorite songs of all time. (on this album too)

Even seeing Charlie Wilson in the Snoop video for "SIGNS"...great to see!!
I'm glad he's still around and singing...R&B has missed his voice for too long.
(even if it's only in the background) but it's so unmistakeable.
