I am SO there with you. In general hearing men sing bores me. Most of the artists I like are women or female fronted bands:

Siouxsie And The Banshees
Tori Amos
Janet Jackson
Goldfrapp
Mors Syphilitica
The Pipettes
Aterciopelados
Lush
Rasputina
Scarling
Cranes
Nellie McKay
Regina Spektor
Geri Halliwell
Kelis
Bif Naked
Wendy & Lisa
PJ Harvey
The Donnas
The Start

I could go on and on...

There was a point when I had every Madonna album. I've since sold the ones I didn't play much anymore. I have four Kate Bush albums, Björk's 'Surrounded' box and Amy's latest. The others I'm not into.

You need to discover PJ Harvey. neutral

I've heard many of her singles of course and they are all pretty cool up until the mid 80s. Is there a comp of her 12" singles? I'd buy that.

Some women, like Ella, Billie, Sarah, et al. are exquisite.

Others, like Aretha, Chaka, Erykah, Ledisi, Tammi Terrell, Diana Ross, Jill, Sade, et al. design varying shades of soul.

Still others, like Wendy and Lisa, bring the funk.

Still others, like Lyte, Latifah, Ladybug, Rah Digga, Lauryn et al. spit hot fire.

Others, like Janet, Amerie, Norah, Diana Krall et al. entertain and entice.

Some women, like Me'Shell, write and sing with the heart of a man.

I love'em all. Even though records by dudes make up about 60-70% of my record collection, it would be nothing without a woman's touch.

With the exception of Klymaxx, usually the only women that throwdown hard are the ones that men have been behind as creators of their image, producers, etc. For instance:

Vanity 6 - Prince
Mary Jane Girls - Rick James
Donna Summer - Georgio Moroder

Usually, when you hear a woman say...."I've got more input myself on my next album"....that usually means they are going to do more slow shit. lol

lol

sad

Is it that women prefer not to funk or just can't funk as well?

The same question could be asked about rap and hard rock which are also male dominated.

A lot of them are too damn sentimental. They are more interested in doing "pretty", "beautiful", "meaningful (yuk)" type songs.

Just look at men and women in everyday life. Men run around saying things like "I'd like to fuck that bitch". You don't hear too many women running around saying things like "I'd like to have his dick and send him on his way afterwards" (although I do know a few bad bitches like that). lol

So then who does the better slow jam? Men or women?

Most of my favorite slow and fast jams are by the same thing....male groups. Slow jams that have a sexy "pick up a stranger in a club at 2:00 a.m. and sleep with them" type feel such as:

Feel Me - Cameo
There'll Never Be - Switch
Always and Forever - Heatwave
You Are My Starship - Norman Conners
You Are Everything - The Stylistics
Sideshow - Blue Magic
A Love Of My Own - Blue Magic

It's not so much the words of the song but the sexy "after midnight" feel to them that makes you want to take someone to bed.

I don't care for too many solo male artists either except for hard motherfuckers like Prince or Rick James. I can't stand male solo artists like Freddie Jackson. And just look how weak the males became when they went solo compared to the group they were in:

The Commodores - Lionel Richie
The Deele - Babyface
The Gap Band - Charlie Wilson
Con-Funk-Shun - Michael Cooper

Even their solo slow songs are nothing like the slow jams they had when they were in a group. I guess with a whole group contributing, they aren't going to put up with one person making their "meaningful" shit. lol

That's not fair . . . pitting "Everlasting Love" vs. "What A Wonderful Thing Love Is"?

"Is It A Crime?" vs. "A House Is Not A Home"?

"Adore" v. "Earth"?

"Do Me, Baby," vs., well, "Do Me, Baby"?
