Nothing's Shocking is perfect, Ritual is overrated, and Strays is underrated, IMO.

Listen to it again. It's not overrated. It's impossible for it to BE overrated. Nothing's Shocking was always my favorite but I think the genius really comes out in Ritual. Any album containing 3 Days cannot be overrated.

lol Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad album, by any measure. It seems to be the most popular Jane's album, but I don't think it's as consistent as NS.

You can think that, but you're wrong.

giggle

Seriously, I LOVE Nothing's Shocking, but the second half of Ritual (Three Days through Classic Girl) is practically a religious experience to listen to.

ahh, see, the second HALF. That's what I mean.

Classic Girl is a fantastic song, tho.

I think Strays is underrated, too. That style is not innovative anymore (it's not 1990, is it?) and I think maybe that's why fans aren't as wowed by it.

But it's a great collection of Janes Addiction music.

I've heard most of Nothing's Shocking and it's great stuff. "Ocean Size" is such a kickass rocker. headbang guitar

I'm gonna buy it soon and then move on to the rest of their catalogue.

I think it's interesting how their debut (Triple XXX, 1987) never even rates as a release - yet it's got my favorite versions of all their songs. The young fury they brought to the stage is mind-blowing, whereas being in the studio kinda overpolished their sound IMO

i love jane's addiction....

ritual is a masterpiece...the drums alone on three days are worth the price of admission. stephen perkins can bang some drums.

nothing's shocking is incredible, as well, with great production. i first saw them live, touring for this album. i had never even heard of them...they made me a fan for life.

strays, on the other hand...i don't know. there might be a couple of good songs, but i couldn't even sit through it once. bob ezrin was a huge mistake, in my opinion. that, and i think their drug use was a huge part of their creative fuel. now that they're clean, they lack the impact they had on previous efforts. sad, but true...

that said, i will never miss an opportunity to see them live. absolute pure rock n roll...i last saw the birthday celebration (?) tour in pittsburgh, with live and the stereo mcs...with perry wearing that parachute as a skirt with all the dancing girls underneath during kettle whistle...man, what an incredible show.

You are certainly not alone in that assessment. I think it is Dave Navarro's best guitar work on a Jane's album. His ability really improved a lot between Ritual and Strays, imo.

Was singing "Been Caught Stealing" this morning as I cooked breakfast. Prompted by this woman on TV who, while talking in her normal voice, sounded like: "And I walk right... through the do-or..."

I couldn't take it. Broke into song, right over my scrambled eggs.

thank you, I was starting to think no one has even heard of this record!

Has 3 of the best Jane's songs ever, Trip Away, Whores (of course!) and Chip Away
