Fuck it, I adore David Bowie's commercial fare.
Give me "Let's Dance" any time of the day.

Bowie is one of my all time fave artists and has always been a big influence on me as a musician/songwriter. Although I wouldn't list this in his top 5 best albums, it's still a very good album. and his best ever selling album. The album has it all, good songs, good musicianship, and great production. Nile was on fire during the 80's and Bowie was smart to employ Nile's skills. This is the only time I got to see Bowie live was on his Serious Moonlight tour at The Forum out here in L.A. So, yeah, this album gets a "yay". SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Nostalgic about it because my father played the tape in the car
and it was the first album I heard from Bowie after seeing the video's on tv from Ashes to ashes and Fashoin. It's a classic album, where a great artist makes a commercial and great album (just like Thriller,PR,Born in the USA,..) and then returns at doing whatever he wants 2 do... I'm also the only person on this world who loves Black Tie,White noise, such great music! [Edited 2/27/07 5:42am] Love4oneanother

One of the founding fathers of New Wave took on the genre and achieved great heights with it. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

This album deserves a just for bringing the unknown Stevie Ray Vaughn in for guitar parts. While it didn't work out between Bowie and SRV, the work has been captured for history.

I only have a greatest hits collection and not the album. "Let's Dance" is my favorite song by him though. Andy is a four letter word.

YAY for the album itself (or most of it anyway)
NAY for the later Bowie albums that it wrought. "I don't need your forgiveness, cos I've been saved by Jesus, so fuck you."

I do like it a lot, but it was probably his weakest album since 'The Man Who Sold The World'. Definitely better than what followed (until 'Outside'), though.
The three big hits are all classics, and there are a few other winners scattered throughout. He should've included the Giorgio Moroder produced 'Cat People' instead of the Nile Rodgers version, and I'd also have stuck 'Under Pressure' on there. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

The songs Let's Dance and China Girl still sound good 24 years on, Like a virgin and Material girl and that whole Virgin album sound dated and crap. How did she became so famous on that album, and True Blue

i say who's to say that Stevie wouldn't have blown up any way w/o Bowie I agree 100%, it was just a matter of time for SRV with his intensity and skills. It was just Mick Jagger seeing him in NYC and inviting him to the Montreaux Jazz Festival for Bowie to check out that was the beginning of his exposure to the World. Modern Love is the track for me off this record.

Borderline yay. It was definitely the beginning of those horrid plastic years (but in retrospect, Glass Spiders makes this look like a freaking masterpiece)
