Poison Look To The Past With New Project

Poison, who celebrated their 20th anniversary with a North American tour with fellow hair metallers Cinderella in tow last year, are going to record a new album of entirely unoriginal material.

Not much has changed in 20 years, smartasses among you might say while reading that. But according to Poison's MySpace page, the group are entering the studio to record an album comprised entirely of classic rock songs. It's scheduled to be out in the late spring and the group are expected to be on the road again this summer in support of the as-yet untitled effort. The band looked for input from fans as to what to include on the LP, and suggestions ranged from Krokus and Led Zeppelin to Cheap Trick and The Scorpions.

Poison have previously covered such songs as The Who's "Squeeze Box," Dr. Hook's "Cover Of The Rolling Stone," Kenny Loggins' "Your Mama Don't Dance" and Grand Funk Railroad's "We're An American Band."

"How cool would it be to hear Poison perform the song you suggested LIVE when they play your town this summer," the band wrote in a MySpace blog entry. "AC/DC? Skynyrd? ZZ Top? The Stones? The Who? Let's hear it."

The band, known for such songs as "Talk Dirty To Me" and "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," have had their share of recent inner turmoil. During an Atlanta concert last August, lead singer Bret Michaels fired his microphone at bassist Bobby Dall, who then flung his bass at Michaels and injured his knee. The two were separated before coming to blows and returned for the encore before concluding the tour in early September. A video of the event can be found at various websites, including YouTube.
