New Book: MIchael Jackson For The Record I hope it's okay with everybody if I post this info. I know there are alot of MJ and J5 fans on the org who don't go to the MJ forums so I thought maybe some of you may be interested:)
Published by AuthorsOnLine Ltd. Publication date: March 2007 Michael Jackson first entered a recording studio in November 1967, just three months after his ninth birthday. Two years later he and his older brothers scored their first hit, I Want You Back – and, despite set-backs that would have ended the career of a lesser man, Michael’s legion of fans remain as loyal today as they have ever been. The aim of this book is to document the many songs Michael has been involved with over the years – as singer, as writer, as producer, or simply as the inspiration or subject. The songs are listed numerically and alphabetically, and each listing includes the artist, release date and connection to Michael, together with other interesting information. We have used a number of sources in compiling this book. The starting point, naturally, was the officially released singles and albums by Michael and his brothers, not forgetting the numerous collaborations he has been involved with over the years. Many unreleased songs Michael has written or co-written have been registered – most commonly by his music company Mijac Music – with one or more professional bodies, including: The United States Copyright Office. The Songwriters Hall of Fame. The American performing rights organisation, BMI. The American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers. The Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency Ltd. EMI Music Publishing Michael has name-checked numerous songs he has written or co-written in copyright court cases – most notably, in Mexico in 1993. All these titles are detailed, as are the poems – but not the reflections – featured in Michael’s 1992 book of poems and reflections, Dancing The Dream. We have also included and detailed: Official remixes. Notable demo versions. Cover versions & other hit versions. Notable adaptations and tracks, especially hits, which have sampled a Jackson or Jackson-related song. We recognise we have not included every demo version or every cover version or every song to sample one of Michael’s recordings – to do so would be impossible. Every song Michael has ever been involved with recording surely exists – or once existed – in at least one, and probably numerous, demo versions. The vast majority of these will never be heard and it would serve no purpose to simply mention ‘demo version exists’, for every title listed. Therefore, we have only detailed demos that have been officially or unofficially released, or where interesting facts about the demo are known. Numerous unofficial remixes also exist – again, for the most part, we have made no attempt to detail these. We are indebted to a number of contacts, who shall remain nameless, who have confirmed the existence of numerous unreleased songs – for example, one contact has in his possession some rare, unreleased Motown demo tracks, and a list of unreleased cover versions recorded by the Jackson 5. It was inevitable, in compiling a book like this from scratch, we would come across songs Michael is rumoured to have written, or recorded, or been involved with, but which we didn’t feel comfortable including in the main body of the book, due to a lack of hard evidence they actually exist. At the same time, we didn’t simply want to ignore such songs or omit them completely – hence, following the main body of the book, we have compiled a ‘Rumour Has It’ section. This features a list of titles that might exist and might be Michael-related, but equally might not. We don’t doubt some people will feel certain songs in the main body of the book should be in the rumour section, or not be in the book at all, or visa-versa. It’s equally certain we have left out songs other people would have included and, while we have striven for 100% accuracy, we wouldn’t be human if we didn’t make the occasional error. This book has taken us nearly three years to research and write, and it’s no exaggeration to say we could have spent another two or three years working on it – it’s that kind of project. But we had to draw the line somewhere, if the book was ever to see the light of day. We hope you enjoy reading our book as much as we have enjoyed researching and writing it. www.cadman-halstead-musicbooks.com My friends Chris and Craig wrote this book and have been working on it for about 3 years now. They helped with the "Visual Documentary" book and the "Off The Wall" fanzine from back in the day "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Nice cover. He´s hot. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

So if I made a book about MJ, would y'all send me demos and bootleggage as "hard evidence"?

I still think Prince out does them both. He writes songs all the time and I've read that he wrote like 100 songs for only one album. I don't know if this is true, but i'm sure he has a lot of unreleased stuff (Prince has got more stuff though)

I still think Prince out does them both. He writes songs all the time and I've read that he wrote like 100 songs for only one album. I don't know if this is true, but i'm sure he has a lot of unreleased stuff (Prince has got more stuff though) But if that is true, why does it take him SOOOOO long between records. Not only that but there have been scant B-Sides and every time that he says he's writiing a song, nothing materializes...ala Katrina. To me if he did write a lot the proof would be in the pudding. I mean we know prince is prolific because he has never been able to hide it. Christian Zombie Vampires

It's because he's gotten lazy lol. Between 1982 and 1987, He did the Victory album and tour, the Captain EO film, We Are The World, a play called "Street Dandy"(that was never completed) and other things. 1987-1991, he did the Bad Tour, Moonwalker, and formally started working on the Dangerous project in 1989.
Now recently, I felt his heart hasn't been in to it since 1995 "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Damn, I want all those songs.
yeah but prince has always had quality control issues....mj didnt really have this issue till invincible.
yeah, till he had kids. I guess his priorities are different now. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

I still think Prince out does them both. Michael records hundreds of songs for each album. It overwhelms(sp) how much MJ songs there are that we haven't heard, and probably never will. He records 100+ songs for each album, and only picks about 10-15. So there's atleast 85-90 songs from each album we haven't heard, that's incredible to think about. Expecially when there are songs on certain albums you don't fancy, and there are a possible 85 songs that might be better than it that weren't chosen for the album. I've already heard a lot of album out-takes that are better than most of the songs on the album. There's Monkey Business and For All Time from the Dangerous sessions. Both of them are better than atleast half the songs that did make the album. I love those 2 songs. It drives me crazy thinking about why on earth they weren't put on any album. It's insane!

Is it true that the following songs were offered to Michael but he rejected them?
***"Mystery"---This song was written by Rod Temperton and recorded by Anita Baker in 1986.I heard that Rod originally offered it to MJ but he foolishly passed on it.It's actually my favorite song from Anita's 'Rapture' album. ***"La Isla Bonita"---Recorded by Madonna in 1986 and became a big hit for her.I heard that it was originally offered to MJ.

Just to clear some things up...
* You Haven't Done Nothing (1974) (Stevie Wonder) Stevie Wonder Not an out-take, because it was officially released. * A Brand New Day (1978) (???) Various Artists See above. * Be A Lion (1978) (???) Cannot by any means be classified as an out-take. It was officially released, and eveyone knows about it. * You're The One (1985) (Michael Jackson, Buz Kohan) Jennifer Holliday See above. * You Were There (1985) (Michael Jackson, Buz Kohan) Can't really be classed as an out-take, because it was never intended to be on an album. It was written for the Sammy Davis Jr tribute and nothing else. * Chicago 1945 (1987) (Michael Jackson, Steve Pocaro) Not an out-take. It's just the working titled for "Smooth Criminal" * Get It (1987) (Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder) Not an out-take. Was officially released. * Come Together (1968) (John Lennon, Paul McCartney) Not an out-take. Was officially released on HIStory. (Wasn't intende for Bad. I don't even know why it was on HIStory) * Do The Bartman (1990) (???) "Bart Simpson" Not an out-take. Was officially released. * Mind Is The Magic (1990) (Michael Jackson) See above. * Happy Birthday, Lisa (1991) (Michael Jackson) First of all, it's not an out-take because it was released. Secondly, it's not even Michael singing. * Neverland Landing (1987-1991) (Michael Jackson) FAKE. Fans heard this song a couple of years ago, and thought it was Michael singing. Someone claimed it was titled "Neverland Landing". But it is actually a song by Tom Fox (who sounds uncannily like Michael) and it's called "Wayfaring Stranger". * Satisfy You / To Satisfy You (1990-1992) (Bryan Loren, Michael Jackson) Was officially released, as far as I know. * Whatzupwitu (1992) (???) Eddie Murphy Not an out-take. Was officially released. * Yeah (1992) (???) Eddie Murphy See above. * You Cry (1992) (Michael Jackson) FAKE. Someone put it up on the internet, claiming it was a short snippet of an unreleased song by Michael. It was just a verse from "Be Not Always". * Joy (1994) (Michael Jackson) Blackstreet Not an out-take. Was officially released. * I Need You (1995) (3T) 3T See above. * Why - Released Version (1994-1995) (Michael Jackson) 3T See above. * Elizabeth, I Love You (1996) (Michael Jackson, Buz Kohan) How is this an out-take? It was recorded for any album. It was written for Elizabeth Taylor to be performed in honour of her. * Be Me For A Day (1998) (Michael Jackson) Is this song really that old? I thought it was recent, like 2004/5 or something. * People Of The World (1999) (Michael Jackson) J-Friends This isn't an out-take, It was officially released. * Chicago 1945 (2001) (Michael Jackson, Steve Pocaro // This isn't a new version of anything. It was originally written in 1986/1987, and was the working title for "Smooth Criminal". * Force (2003) (Michael Jackson, Irv Gotti, Ashanti, Ja Rule) Michael Jackson Feat. Ashanti and Ja Rule * One More Chance (????-2003) (R. Kelly) Not an out-take. Written and recorded for the Number Ones album. * Prayer For Peace (2003) (Michael Jackson, Barry Gibb) Michael Jackson * We've Had Enough (????-2004) This wasn't a Vince out-take. It was written for the Ultimate Collection. It's an officially released song. * Breaking (2004) (Michael Jackson) * Dead Or Alive (2004) (Michael Jackson) * Healing My Feelings (2004) (Michael Jackson) * What About Me (2004) (Michael Jackson) FAKE, FAKE, FAKE, FAKE * UNTITLED SONG (2005) This is just a rumour, made by Michael. Nothing indicates that there was such a song, or who the writers were. Michael just said the Jacksons might be making a Tsunami benefit song. * From The Bottom Of My Heart (2005) (Michael Jackson) * I Have A Dream (2005) (Michael Jackson) I'm not sure, but Bain's reports from 2005 regarding the song indicate they are the same song, but the title was changed from "From the Bottom of My Heart" to "I Have A Dream". "I Have This Dream" actually dates back to about 2003. Also, I don't know how you can include demos. Nearly every song ever recorded by any artist is first recorded as a demo. Artists rarely release those demos, except as a B-side. So they aren't out-take because they eventually end up on an album, in one form or another. * Pressure (2000-2003) * Seduction (2000-2003) (Michael Jackson, Shelby Lee Myrick II) * The Pain (2000-2003) (Michael Jackson, Rodney Jerkins) I heard about these songs ages ago, and I've been dying to hear them ever since. The titles sound cool. I was hoping they would be on TUC. [Edited 2/15/07 18:39pm]
