Is the white album worth buying?

I have just been getting into the beatles(mainly becuase of paul's bass playing); i now have, love, sgt pepper, no 1's and i've ordered abbey road and rubber soul.

There's alot of mixe4d reviews with the white album with people saying it's all great and others stating there's considerable filler; any thoughts?

I wouldn't bother, it's crap and it sounds like Oasis.

ARE YOU KIDDING? It's the best album they ever did...

why should i be kidding?

Some albums are over-hyped and overrated aren't they? I was just asking opinions that's all.

This one ís not over-hyped. It's their most versatile an unusual sounding album ever. For some there maybe some filler but it's all top notch material to me. It took me a few listens to appreciate it but after that it was my fav album ever (except for Parade).

I was thinking the exact same thing this morning. I got the Love album a few months ago and loved the little guitar bit from Julia, which I know cannot stop listening to. Have ordered my copy so I can listen to the full track. yay!

Buy this album. One of the best of all time. Just skip over Revolution 9. Pretend it never existed.

Anyone who says The White Album is overrated or isn't worth buying (are you listening Moonbeam? lol )--well, I'm not saying their opinion isn't valid, but they are in the extreme minority and chances are if you liked what you heard from the Fab Four already then you will love it. Get it. nod

It's superb. I'm not much of a Beatles fan (I much prefer The Stones, The Beach Boys and The Who), BUT "The Beatles" (aka The White Album) is not only one of the greatest double albums ever made, but one of the best albums period. That and most of Abbey Road (especially the continuous suite of songs on the second half) more than justify The Beatles claim to greatness. I would wait until the remasters come out later this year before buying it again. The mono and stereo mixes of the albums have some significant differences ...

To me it is the most defining Beatles album. I have my reasons...

1. It's earthy and personnable. They'd established they could write pop masterpieces and be successfully experimental...but this was the first signs of emotionally moving music. Thankfully, they expand on this further on Abbey & Let it Be...they begin to transcend the pure entertainment returns on the pop song.

2. Everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey. It sure does sound like a novelty song, but it delivers. And then you are shocked at how it is only one of many at this feast...

3. If you love the bridge to 'Happiness is a Warm Gun', you'll find you can take all your Alice in Chains albums back to the record store and collect some cash. Yes, the Beatles can accomplish in a part of a song what modern era bands contribute over their careers. And that's just a single song on a double album...

Ah, but that's the fun of it. The album is almost seamless in terms of quality (Piggies is crap, mind you), and then you hit a crock of shit like Revolution 9 and it's funny as fuck.

My curiosity got the best of me...I checked out AllMusic, and each song on the album is reviewed except 'Good Night' (the last song & directly following Rev9). Gotta wonder if it is the most unlistened to song in the Beatles catalogue....

1; they have not been confirmed as far as cd releases
2; they might be butchered and highly compressed like all the other crap that's out today
3; The originals are actually fine. I can turn them up, put on the sub woofer and enjoy unlike 99% of(see above)

I'm not a Beatles fan but "Blackbird" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"...some great Beatles tracks. I know this sounds crazy although maybe Sextonseven might back me up but I think the best verison of "Dear Prudence" is by Siouxsie and the Banshees.

I certainly like that version more than the original, but I believe a lot of Banshees fans think their cover is a little weak and not truly representative of them.
