RUFUS FT. CHAKA KHAN (APPRECIATION THREAD)

I don't even know WHERE to begin
I appreciate everything this group has done
with & without Chaka

but it's the shit they did WITH Chaka
that is... it's... so exciting cool

is it possible to pick a favorite album?
I love them all in their own way...
the most exciting one has to be RUFUSIZED though cool

Ask Rufus is often donned "favorite"
but it was not your average Rufus album

has anyone heard this?

I have Numbers which has
"Pleasure Dome"... love it
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

It's Lalomie Washburn. Used to be a real close friend of Chaka Khan.
I did a memorial post when she passed away: http://www.prince.org/msg/8/116904

It includes a pic of 'Lomie and I some time in the 80s doing a gig at The Roxy here in L.A.

I can diffentiate between Chaka & "them"

Paulette McWilliams was the
original lady of Rufus right?

Thing is,,,I haven't heard any of the Non-Chaka Rufus lps. I'm only fimiliar with some of their credit liner notes.

And yep, Paulette is the original Rufus diva. She's also the diva behind Quincy Jones' masterpiece "Mellow Madness" where she sings the title track. Baaaad ass chic. She's more comfortable doing session work though.

She sang back-up for Mary J once.

That whole lp was recorded during the Rolling Stones tour

Alot of rough things happend in the back scene during that time.

Its really nice to see Chaka alive and well these days when you hear about her crazy stories.

BTW you should hear Joyce Kennedy's version of Chaka's "Stronger Than Before" which came out during the same time "I Feel For You" lp got released...

That whole "Looking For Trouble" album is on the money nod This is different than the rock/funk stuff she did with Mother's Finest. She still hasn't tuned it down but its str8 up RnB.

To this day, her mention expands 4-9 pages full of fights over @ CK's board lol

What's not to love about Rufus with or without Chaka Khan?
I love their song "Any Love" alot although most of what they did was just absoultely amazing.
The clarity in Chaka's voice at that point was special as well.

Ndeed!!

Btw, Paulette's daughter, Brigette McWilliams has two Smokin' albums, "Too Much Woman", and "Starlite Lounge"--sounds like a cross between her mom AND Chaka---the albums feature Tony Maiden and Bobby Watson from Rufus , as well as legends like Billy Preston, Al McKay (EW&F) Frank McComb, and "Too Much Woman" even has Clare Fischer's String Arrangements!

Both albums were produced by Steve 'The Scotsman" Harvey , who produced Donnie's album, "The Colored Section", and Frank McComb's "Truth, Vol.1" album....

I love "Little boy blue" from the "Rufus featuring Chaka Khan" album. Did they record more songs like that? I`m afraid most of their stuff is a little too gritty for me... geek

yes... "Little Boy Blue" is my everything love

you'd probably like
"Close The Door"/"Earth Song" from Ask Rufus
"Smoking Room" from Rags To Rufus
"Blue Love"/"Stranger To Love" from Street Player
