There is classic country, like Ernest Tubb, Lefty Frizzell, Webb Pierce etc., and 60s-70s country like Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson...all that stuff is great and really rewarding.
The stuff that's been coming out for the last 25 years in the genre seems more like pop/rock trash to me than country, though. Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. I would say the stories (way to go, tA), and the soul that's in country. Country goes way out in Begville, just like slow jams do.
To me still, the best album that showcases the similarities is "Rhythm, Country and Blues" -- if only for Al Green & Lyle Lovett's simmering, ironic take on "Funny How Time Slips Away." | |
