That was always one of my favorite videos and songs of the year 1982, the year in which I breathed MTV. Great skank bop with a dead pan delivery. Her delivery is absolutely divine love She nails it, no one could do that better.

But that's sad she died. sad What is her name anyway? lol

Patricia J. Donahue (March 29, 1956—December 9, 1996) was the lead singer of The Waitresses (sometimes credited as Patty Darling).

Donahue did not write the lyrics that she sang; songs such as "I Know What Boys Like" were written by Chris Butler, though Donahue's tone, described variously by the media as "cheeky," "dry," and "knowing," with a "playful sexiness," certainly led to the songs' popularity. Though the music had a post-punk sensibility, Donahue never raised her voice above a "half-yell," yet still commanded great attention.

During the recording of the second and final Waitresses album, Bruiseology, Donahue left the band amid tension and was replaced with Holly Beth Vincent, though Donahue rejoined afterwards.

After The Waitresses broke up for good, Donahue generally kept a low profile, though she is credited on Alice Cooper's Zipper Catches Skin with "vocals and Sarcasm." She worked in A&R, finding other talented musicians.

Donahue died of lung cancer at the age of 40 after battling it for a year. She is buried in Cleveland's Holy Cross Cemetery.

Holy cow, she was from Cleveland (my hometown). I never knew that. She died young. sad
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Bangin' song and bangin' groove. I still have the 45 single. The guitar is very cool. This song bit HEAVILY off of another song, musically. The chorus in this song is a dead ringer from another song from 1976. Anybody knows what it is? Rip, SoulAlive, ya'll are hip to shit from the 70's, do ya'll know? Think about it.

hmmm now you got me going crazy, wondering what song you're talking about lol

Also, here's some more info...

The female bassist is Tracy Wormworth. She later went on to play bass for Sting on his first solo album/tour. Also, played with Wayne Shorter and the B-52's. She was a regular member of the Rosie O'Donnell Show band in the late '90s.

She was featured in a bassist magazine just last year.

Plus, here's a cool site with scattered info on each of the members :: http://www.hardcafe.co.uk.../book.html

O.k., well at least u guys Soul Alive, Rip and even Cinister has jumped in on this! At least ya'll have given it some thought. So thank u for that. This is what I've ALWAYS heard since the moment "I Know What Boys Like" first came out. The musical section on the hook and even the vocal melody on the hook is "Enjoy Yourself" by The Jacksons. Right now, hum the chorus from "Enjoy Yourself" and then him the chorus to "I Know What" . And then, if u have access to both songs, listen to them back to back.

Quoted it down to the asterik! Thanks.
cool thumbs up!

That cassette is their first EP that came out before their LP debut in 1982. Alot of resources list this EP as being from 1981 actually. Definitely some songs appeared on 7" in 1981 (as the asterik reinforces).

Coolness. smile
