He's definitely living the "high life" on his vast farm/estate. "CBS This Morning" did a profile on him a few months ago. He's basically hanging out on his farm with his wife and children and records music at his leisure in a recording studio located on his estate. There was some footage of him recording some new music with members of his band. He seems to be very content and he's held onto his money throughout the years.

Weren't Traffic touring a year or two back? Y'know, I don't think I've ever heard a Traffic album. I should fix that...

I really liked Back in the High Life. I was a kid when it came out, and that was the first I'd heard of him.

Last time I saw him was bobbing his head in the audience on the George Harrison Tribute DVD.

Not sure about that one as Jim Capaldi (drummer) died a couple of years ago.

You should definitely check into some Traffic though.
Might want to start at the start with...

I was completely wrong on this one - they did tour in '94. Harrumph...I could have sworn I read a review in billboard of a traffic tour no more than two or three years ago.

I'll keep an eye open for that record.

Do you think I need to go any further into the Spencer Davis Group than a decent comp?

He really wasn't with them very long before he left to form Traffic...

...This comp should do you.

Or anything (remastered maybe) that includes:
Gimme Some Lovin'
Keep On Running
I'm a Man
Somebody Help Me

Yeah, Valerie. smile

During his "80s POP" period...

...Arc of a Diver was a very good album.

This is the album that preceded Talking Back to the Night which included Valerie.

Times like these I wish an Amoeba was nearby. If I want any of these albums I have to order them online. Eventually, I'll get these records.

OMG I freaking LOVE the back in the high life album. I listen to it all the time. Higher Love gives me chills! It sounds like a song mj or madonna could have done.

Isn't that the truth. I'm lucky enough to have a really great indie shop nearby, but most of the large 'music' retailers seem to barely even stock music these days - most of the shelves seem to be given over to DVDs - and they stock very little in the way of catalogue items. harrumph.

but that's another thread, I guess...

control used to be my favourite album of 86 until I got back in the high life. I can listen to it without skipping a song and those songs give me chills. I know I keep saying that and the album sounds like a lot of other 80's songs but this one just hit home for me. Even though the lyrics are simple it's stuff people could relate to no matter what demographic

Yes, good tunes. I haven't heard that record for years. I wonder how it sounds now? I'm sure it wasn't his best work, but to a 15 year old it was classic and somewhat deep pop.

I always likened it to Peter Gabriel's So, which came out around the same time. Two big pop albums that jump started an older artist's career.

I liked B.I.T.H.L. better, but I guess So has aged better, at least in people's minds.

I didn't say it was their best stuff, just that they were big albums by legends that came out around the same time.
