The best 5 hip-hop albums of the last 5 years

I can count how many hip-hop albums that I've bought this century on one hand it seems (Outkast, Danger Mouse, K-Os). It's time I reconnected with my roots. What are the five best hip-hop albums of the last five years? The ones that get the most votes, I will investigate. Thanks in advance for your help. smile

No. The three artists I mentioned are the only artists of which I bought non-compilation albums in the last five years.

I liked the single "Grindin" by Clipse--very old school.

check out THe Roots Game Theory. Lyrically, BlackThought is in good form, and musically, the band is all over the place (in a good way). Not as good as Do You Want More???? but very good on its own merit.

How did I forget....

Common - Electric Circus

This is a "love it or hate it" album.Personally, I think its his best. The production proved to be too eclectic for the more narrow-minded listener. Keyboard and beat driven, this album is what headphones are made for. music

Funny enough, I acknowledge that Outkast album as classic, but never owned a copy myself.

I was waiting for Cee and namepeace's input specifically. Both of you mention 'Madvillainy' and Jay-Z's 'The Black Album'. Oddly enough I have 'The Grey Album' which I love (and Cee hates), but not 'The Black Album'.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks. I already have k-os' 'Joyful Rebellion'--love that record. 'Donuts' has appeared on more than a few best-of lists for 2006. And Cee is always raving about that album too. I might have to get that one.

I haven't bought a hip hop record since about 1999. Last one I can recall getting is the foxy brown-chyna white record, but I did burn Kanye West's Late Registration cause I kind of liked it, the samples were used well and he was making more sense than any other rapper at the time. I remember liking jay-z's blueprint(the first one) in 2001 when I borrowed it from a friend but I didn't want to buy it. I've heard good things about k-os, common and nas recent stuff so I'll check those out when I get a chance though I'm in no hurry. I have respect for these rapper

5. Mos Def - The New Danger (2004)

Honorable Mention: The Roots - The Tipping Point (2004)

to me Under Construction &
Girl Interrupted
go hand in hand

I loved what Missy/Mr. Mose'
were doing with the
return of the late 80's/early 90's

but then she started to drown

Ghost is one of the most brilliant MCs in the game. His material is usually on point but does have some rough spots, usually when Raekwon (who never quite let Cuban Linx go) shows up. IMHO.

"Holla" is hip-hop brilliance. Ghost spits over the entire "La La La" track. Kills it.

Can't go there either. The weakest of the Beasties' albums. Not terrible. But definitely not one of the best, IMHO.
