CES 2007

Not much to report here in terms of products as I was stuck in a suite at The Venetian (location for Audiophile Audio manufacturers) doing product demos. I never got anywhere near the actual Las Vegas Convention Center.

A few links for CES 2007 product reviews:
PC Magazine
CNET
AnandTech
Stereophile
AV Guide

Video Clip: Tasered in Vegas

One good thing about being stuck in the suite, between product demos...

...I could enjoy a couple of very expensive audio systems.

Based on repeated listenings, a few recordings i'd recommend:

The World's Greatest AUDIOPHILE Vocal Recordings...

...Various Artists - Isn't She Lovely - Livingston Taylor, 'Round Midnight - Kenny Rankin

Souls Alike - Bonnie Raitt...

...Cut(s) - The Bed I Made, So Close

Sailing To Philadelphia - Mark Knopfler...

...Cut(s) - Sailing To Philadelphia (w/James Taylor)

The Girl In The Other Room - Diana Krall...

...Cut(s) - The Girl In The Other Room

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

I did get invited to the Monster Cable show featuring...

...George Benson & Al Jarreau.

They brought on...

...Patti Austin to do a few tunes.

George Benson also came to the after-party...

...and jammed with the band that included long time Benson bassist Stanley Banks and former Santana vocalist Alex Ligertwood

And finally, another benefit of these excursions is expensed dining. A few restaurant suggestions.

Voodoo Cafe (The Rio Hotel)

Tao
One caveat here and a problem with any eating establishment that tries to be too hip.
The "music" (techno-trash) was way too loud. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be dining or dancing. disbelief

Firefly (Tapas style)
Great bargain.

Maybe a NAMM 2007 report tomorrow or the next day.

You listened to these to demonstrate the audiophillyness of the stereo systems?

These were a few that didn't get on my nerves after hearing them over and over again.
I picked some "Pop" SACD discs that consisted of a detailed vocal recording with a relatively simple accompaniment (acoustic guitar/piano or a small rhythm section).

And yes another year has passed. cool

An SACD disc provides higher resolution 2-channel audio than a standard CD and can also include a multi-channel audio layer (5.1 surround).

Go to a high-end audio dealer in your area and get an audition.

Any place that sells CDs should carry them at this point.

Diana Krall is alright. I'm not a giant fan.
I especially like the discs that guitarist Anthony Wilson plays on.

That's what makes Tribal Disorder an interesting band imo.
We all bring different things to the table.

I met TR at the NAMM show the following week.

Sam Rivers and Longineu have been friends for quite a long time.
He happened to be available for the gig in Colombia and the subsequent recording.

Functionally, what is the purpose of the actual turntable itself being so thick?

Without doing any research, i'm guessing that the design concept is that much mass coupled with whatever drive system they're using will yield an extremely accurate turntable.

Screw it. Your question got my curiosity up.
From the tmhaudio website (U.S. distrubuters of the French manufacturer, Metronome)...

The Platter is precision machined from massive 80mm/3.15inches solid acrylic. It combines extremely low resonance with very smooth surface. With the significant rotational stability from 7.5 kg (16.5 lbs) of mass, the platter is extraordinary in its ability to retrieve musical detail and assure speed stability on wide dynamic musical disk reproduction.

...And there you have it. geek
