What do the orgers think about The Doors? This band was never discussed here (as far has I remember!). They have a huge following here in Portugal.

Yes, The Doors are actually a big favorite by more than a few Orgers here. I know I have posted on many threads about them! Their popularity continues simply because no one will let them die... including the surviving members of the band!!!!
In 2006 they released another box set. A couple of years ago they recruited Ian Astbury of The Cult to be the lead singer for a Doors of the 21st Century project. It was a move I thought was brilliant! I have the DVD and hoped for a CD, especially of some new material. But, alas, it wasn't meant to be! John Densmore sued Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger for using the name or not including him... Then they tried to change the new name of the band to "Riders On the Storm" instead but I am not sure what's transpired except for poetic readings by Krieger these days.

I Love em. Don't have a lot of their albums, but I have a few comps and an album or two. I pretty much love all of the songs. Jim's voice is iconic. Shame he had to leave us.

Great band. All their main albums are great - including the critics' least favourite ones, The Soft Parade (ok, it's weaker than the first two and the last two, but there's still enough about it to cherish). The 2006 remastered versions are worth getting, especially the debut (The Doors) because it now runs at the correct speed (a few key differences are apparent, notably The End, where you can hear Jim hissing "fuck fuck fuck fuck" right after the "Oedipal section" of the song). There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Strangely, the 2006 box set is well worth getting - extra tracks (yeah I know, I know ... do you need three versions of fucked up Roadhouse Blues takes? ... no, but you know you do), improved sound (and a new version of the debut - right speed, extra bits and pieces in the songs you never heard before ... do you need this - no, but you know you do), nice packaging (yes, cardboard, trees, the dying planet ... do you need this? no, nut ... you know the drill). There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

[Edited 1/21/07 14:25pm] The 2 men on the left were The Door! The other 2 on the right are a bunch of sell-outs for trying to tour with replacement members.

How can anyone NOT love the Doors?
Have you seen the Oliver Stone movie with a brilliant Val Kilmer (who actually sang the parts)? That was a biopic that all are held to as far as I'm concerned. While their best stuff are blues covers by the best bluesmen (Wolf, Dixon) when they dropped acid and wrote The End or the gypsy cover of the Alabama Song, it made them a real band who wrote some songs that have held up over time. "When the music's over, turn out the light...baby..."

Knowing what an anti-classic rocker you are for the most part, I have a little difficulty picturing this I like them, though they've never been a band I've gone to very often. Roadhouse Blues is a favourite, of course - and I have to admit that Touch Me, a track everone else seems to despise, is probably my top song by them. I love the cheesey 'blood, sweat and tears' feel to it. [Edited 1/22/07 19:35pm] [Edited 1/23/07 3:28am]

Knowing what an anti-classic rocker you are for the most part, I have a little difficulty picturing this - bewildering! I like them, though they've never been a band I've gone to very often. I love the cheesey 'blood, sweat and tears' feel to it. [Edited 1/22/07 19:35pm] They may not fit very neatly into my musical patterns, but I have all of the Doors albums and love them quite a bit! I think they made great blues/rock and Jim Morrison's presence and charisma is hard to top! Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018!
