All the music from around then was hipper in general. There's that element to it, certainly - but you were listening to Portishead for god's sake. in grade eight. I was listening to k-tel compilations at that age.

Grade 8? I guess i was around 12/13 years old so.....
nirvana oasis cream eric clapton dire straits (knofler was my guitar hero when I was first trying to play) Queen Cast cant remember the rest. Quite different to now though. Now iam a walking, living and breathing in music from my childhood and that era. My love for newjack died for years until around 17 years old, and my tastes were considered quite cool back then. Infact, they always were, even as a 6 year old. Now my collection is the biggest joke around LOL

Not quite as scary as when I went out shopping this week trying to find a CD copy of Don't Be Cruel. Most of the stores did NOT carry this album (which I assumed was an essential catalog album like Tracy Chapman's `88 joint) and that's if they carried Bobby Brown at ALL. They had a bunch of Chris Brown though. I was with my friend who is 6 years younger than me and he was asking me to break down exactly what I was looking for! "I don't want a 20th Century Masters millenium hits compilation; I want Don't Be Cruel". I finally went to a used store and bought these:
