Artists that are hanging by a thread!

You know the ones i'm talking about. They are there but just barely and have not yet reached super stardom. For example...

Mya
Jon B.
Joi
Monica

These people have been around for years but barely get by.

Add to the list please!

Well the thing is that MYA really is the only one on their that has other things that she does, though she isnt known for her acting, she does have that too as an option and has 2 films coming this year and another album as soon as Motown gets its head out of its ass. None of these artists are going to hit super stardom, because its all based on this "Beyonce like" fame, which isnt going to happen. Now from this list the only one i listen too is Mya, so i cant comment really on the others music, but i would take Mya any day over Beyonce or a Ciara or Fantasia, its just tougher for MYA now since she is getting older, though only 27, that is considered OLD in todays game, so at this point hearing MYA speak she knows that the "BEYONCE" success isnt what she is gonna get and she knows it, but she also has a pretty loyal fan base that usually gets her a gold record, which may be nothing to the "bling bling platnum" generation, but as long as she is doing music im happy, also i think any artist that can hang around 10 years, which Mya has and Jon B and Monica have and still put out music and have at least a following that will go get it, or go to a show of theirs, thats more than getting by (plus mya just bought a studio and built a dance studio in her neighborhood for kids to learn danc, has Beyonce done that?)

I was curious about Mya's new music but I heard a song and it wasn't mediocre if anything. Seems like she only has a few good songs here and there but not a good album.

As for some others, I don't think every artist is meant to have super stardom and I don't think that necessarily means that they're not successful.

The first track she did was "AYO" with Kwame which was pretty good but it got no airplay here i think it reached 80 on the rb chart but was top 10 in Germany? Then Mya kind of backed off the project a little, i think its a production issue and problem with direction, I know the label has to be pushing producers on her and if you know Mya, if she doesnt like something she will tell you, which is what gets her in trouble alot, as Far as her Albums, i agree on her first two records, however Moodring i thought was her best, but too damn long, but then again almost everyones albums are too long, on some versions there were 18 tracks, it should have been 10-12 at the most. But this is how i felt about Aaliyahs first two albums also. And if you think about it, had Aaliyah still been around i think she would be on this list of artists not at a Superstardom level.

I've only heard Lock U Down with Lil Wayne and I didn't even want to play it twice. I thought things would pick up for her after Chicago but...oh well.

Personally, I prefer when artists don't become superstars but I'm sure they may feel differently depending on their definition of success is.

The Boy is Mine with Brandy. It was number one for 13 weeks in 1998. And a couple weeks after that, her own song, Not the First Night was number one for a few weeks (I'll have to double check the exact weeks).

The First Night was number one for five weeks and the following year, Angel of Mine was also number one. Those are just the number ones. She had other big hits as well. So, stateside at least, she was very popular for a period of time.

Oh yeah, i forgot that track. Yeah i think more of my issue with this one is Lil Wayne, i mean at this point isnt he over and that whole sound gone already?
However the good thing is Mya is in a better place in her own head as far as success and knowing what it means to her. I agree, id rather artists i like not catch on to a point that they are liked by everyone. I always knew MYA wouldnt be that way, mainly because she is the type either you like or dont like, not too much middle ground with her, she always struck me as someone that was going to do what she wanted whether people liked it or not, which is why i like her i guess.
